We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christina Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christina below.
Christina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In 2021, I decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in video production. I didn’t really know anyone in LA, except for 1 or 2 friends I wasn’t too close with. I was moving mid-pandemic with no connections and no leads on work, so I knew I faced an uphill battle. However, I knew if I was ever going to move on with my life I had to get out of the Bay Area and try something new. I got divorced in 2017, and moved back in with my parents for the past 4 years. They were concerned about me, because they didn’t know what I was going to do. Shoot, neither did I. All I knew was that I loved filming content, and I had a knack for it. So, I packed up a U-Haul, and moved my entire life to Los Angeles. Funny enough, the exact same weekend I moved I booked a commercial shoot…with Apple. They found me for the gig, too! When they reached out, I honestly thought it was a scam because they were pursuing me so aggressively. But, low and behold, I was at a beautiful condo in Santa Monica filming a segment with an Apple trainer to be revealed at the Apple Developer Conference later that year. Since then, I’ve had many on-camera and behind-the-camera opportunities that have allowed me to grow and continue having fun in the process.

Christina, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I always wanted to be a performer on TV. When I was a kid, I loved being filmed by my mom. I was a tap dancer at a young age, and I told people I wanted to be a movie star when I grew up. When I graduated from UC Davis in 2009, I produced a demo reel and mailed it to news stations all over the country. They all declined. So, I did what any post-college grad would have done if they were living in the Bay Area on their parents’ couch: I joined a tech company. And, I stayed there for 10 years. Although the money was great, I got promoted several times, made some investments, and bought any designer bag I could want I wasn’t happy. I knew something was missing. In 2017, everything blew up in my face. I got let go from my startup, I got divorced, and then got a DUI on Halloween. All in that order. I was 30 years old, and felt like an all-time failure, but after my DUI I knew I was in a hole and I had to get out…somehow. So, I ran. I loved running, I felt so free. I ran on the track team in high school, so running on my high school’s track felt familiar and good. Eventually, I began indoor cycling and fell in love with it so much that I decided to become a cycling instructor. I began sharing my favorite healthy dishes, workout plans, and wellness tips on social media and grew a healthy following on Instagram and TikTok. When I moved to LA to pursue video production, I realized I should also pursue my first love: being on TV.
Currently, I teach fitness classes at Equinox and John Reed providing our members with an elite experience so they feel good moving their bodies. On social media, I continue to share my tips for balanced eating, living, and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle.

Have you ever had to pivot?
After spending 10 years in the Silicon Valley in Sales and Marketing, and being married to a hotelier I literally did a 180. I left Tech for fitness, and became single at 30. Many of my friends didn’t understand what I was doing, and as a result I lost many of them. Although making the pivot was extremely difficult, I wouldn’t change it for anything, because it allowed me to really live in my authenticity. Although my Tech/married life was nice, it wasn’t who I was. I had built a life around who I thought I was supposed to be, not who I wanted to be.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I would have chosen TV from the start. I would have graduated from college and tried to do an internship that would turn into paid work. In Entertainment, it’s very competitive and it’s a slow burn. You will always be growing, so you should plan to run the marathon and I wish I entered that race earlier because I’d be much further along in my skillset as a personality. However, I believe everything happens for a reason, because if I didn’t take the Tech route I may never have found Fitness, and I truly do love Fitness.
