We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kenzie Howell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kenzie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
It wasn’t a single “aha” moment—it was more like a slow unraveling. I grew up immersed in the entertainment world, so storytelling always felt like air to me. As a kid, I’d sit with my dad watching the movies he considered must-sees—usually classic ’80s films or ones he swore everyone had to experience. We’d dissect the plot together, scene by scene, talking about what made the film work—or totally flop. It was our thing, and looking back, it’s probably where my love for storytelling first took root.
I pursued acting throughout my childhood and into my late teen years—always chasing that big break, waiting for the opportunity to step into someone else’s story. Now, I still get to tell other people’s stories, just in a different way. Through my camera, I get to document moments that are raw, emotional, and real. I’m not just here to take pretty pictures. I believe the best art makes you feel something. It stays with you. It tells the truth.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Kenzie—a destination wedding photographer and Super 8 filmmaker based in Nashville, Tennessee. My work is rooted in storytelling that feels honest, emotional, and cinematic. I grew up in the entertainment world and pursued acting into my late teens, which gave me an early sense of how powerful story can be. Over time, I realized I didn’t need to wait for a script to be handed to me—I could tell real stories, unscripted, just by picking up a camera.
Today, I specialize in capturing weddings and love stories that feel intentional and deeply personal. I work with couples who care about presence and want their photos and films to reflect not just how the day looked—but how it felt. I blend editorial structure with raw, emotional honesty. Whether it’s the quiet moments before vows or the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it magic during a reception, I document it with soul.
I offer a full luxury wedding photography experience, complete with same-day sneak peeks, storytelling questionnaires for engagement sessions, and film add-ons like Super 8. My couples often tell me they feel fully seen and celebrated throughout the process, which is something I’m incredibly proud of. I’m not just showing up with a camera—I’m stepping into your story with care and intention.
What sets my work apart is the way it marries nostalgia with modern edge. It’s timeless but not stiff. Artful but never out of touch. I love working with couples who want their photos to feel like a scene from a film—bold, rich, and unforgettable.
If you’re dreaming big but don’t want to miss the little things—I’m your girl.

Have you ever had to pivot?
One of the biggest pivots in my life happened when I left full-time ministry to pursue photography professionally. I had the honor of helping grow the church, but deep down, I knew I was being pulled into something different. In early 2025, I stepped away from my ministry role and fully leaned into my photography business. Change always brings uncertainty, but also incredibly freeing. Since then, I’ve built a brand that’s rooted in intentional storytelling. I work with couples across the country to document weddings in a way that’s raw, cinematic, and emotional.
That pivot taught me that obedience and creativity aren’t mutually exclusive—you can follow your calling and still build a business. You don’t have to choose between purpose and passion.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience showed up in the quiet, behind-the-scenes moments—when I chose to keep building, even when everything felt uncertain. In 2025, I walked away from my full-time ministry job—not because I had everything figured out, but because I felt God asking me to trust Him in the unknown. I didn’t have a backup plan. I didn’t have it all mapped out. But I had a calling—and a camera.
This year has been full of stretching, refining, and moments where I’ve questioned if I have what it takes to run my own business. But I’ve kept showing up. I’m learning to pitch myself, to market, to serve clients with intention. I’ve reworked my branding, launched in new cities, and booked weddings in places I once only dreamed of. Every “no” makes me hungrier. Every quiet season reminds me to stay rooted.
And the truth is—I’m still building. That process never really stops. I definitely haven’t “made it,” and honestly, I’m not sure I’ll ever feel like I have. But I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just pushing through—it’s trusting God when you don’t know what’s behind the door He’s opening. It’s choosing faith over fear, again and again.
