We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jennifer Tatro . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jennifer below.
Jennifer, appreciate you joining us today. One of the toughest things about progressing in your creative career is that there are almost always unexpected problems that come up – problems that you often can’t read about in advance, can’t prepare for, etc. Have you had such and experience and if so, can you tell us the story of one of those unexpected problems you’ve encountered?
Jenn Tatro here, I’m in a band called Card Catalog with three other members. Rob Spears on lead guitar, Kevin Kirkpatrick on drums and Brooke Holman on the bass. We have been trucking along playing shows around Denver, Fort Collins and the foothills area. One unexpected problem that arose for us was- We recently went on tour through the Midwest and had our rental van break down on us. It was abrupt, scary and a bit devastating in moments. It happened 30 min just outside of our second gig, as we were headed to in Missouri. Rob was driving when all of the sudden our van started shaking uncontrollably, and almost sent us off the road. The van it seems, had caught a case of the death wobbles and it started acting up on day two of driving. It sent us into a bit of a panic, and it came completely out of the blue. We thought, is this safe to drive any further? Will we make it to this gig? Will we make it to the gig the next day? So many unknowns… We hobbled the van slowly to the upcoming gig and parked it. We never set foot in it again. We called the rental company, who didn’t really have any of the answers we needed to hear. Then, we called my Dad at 11pm and I asked him if he could please wake up at 4am and come pick us up early in Missouri so we could make it to our next gig. He needed to drive us to Kansas, and we needed to get there by 6pm to set up for the gig. It was -All Dads on Deck!! Dads to the rescue!! Brooke’s Dad gathered all our stuff after our Missouri gig and at midnight took us to our Air B and B out in the middle of no where. Then, my Dad picked us up early that morning with a truck and a trailer and got us back on track and on time headed to Kansas. What an unpredictable and unexpected issue. None the less, we banded together and got it sorted out. We just needed a little bit of help from the Missouri community and family. Finally, we made it safely to Wichita, where we got a new rental van and finished up our tour. We eventually made it back to Colorado, safe and sound.
We are back to Colorado!!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal I have is to keep writing keep getting new ideas going and then record and put them out there. We enjoy playing shows and putting on a great performance for people. That’s something we excel at.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The feeling you get after you play an amazing show for others, and the feelings you share with your band mates afterwards. Also, the feelings and vibes we have on stage when we are in the zone and feel everything going well!
The moment after you have completed writing a song. It’s like a sense of moving forward with your art.
