We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dazja Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dazja below.
Hi Dazja, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Yes, I am currently in the process of creating and launching a lash training program that is different from the usual 2-3 day course.
When moving out of my last salon I was selling things I no longer needed. One of the people who purchased something from me reached out to me a fee days after purchasing needing help with lash technique stuff. She sent a few pictures and in order to help her I needed better understanding, so I asked a few questions. These were basic questions anyone who does lashes should know, like what diameter were the lashes you used? What type of set did you do? She responded saying she didn’t know.
That broke my heart. Because how did you spend money with a lash trainer and left and have no ideas what type of lashes you are using or what lash set. How can you go on and be successful in your role if you don’t understand it?
As a result of this experience and other things I’ve seen I decided to create mini masterclasses that breakdown the things every lash artist should know in a way that they can become masters at the craft. The mini masterclasses focus on one thing at a time assuring a higher level of understanding, that turns into confidence and that confidence leads to material and building a better business.
Anyone who’s been to a full lash course knows that if can be a lot of information to take in at once. Most people take multiple to get a full understanding of all the things we need to grow, at least I did.
I have 2 goals with these trainings. 1 Is to help new lash artist build the confidence to charge more. And the second is to help new lash artist build confidence in their brand, skill and business through mastery. I want to fill the gap in lash education so we can raise the standards in our industry.

Dazja, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yes of course. My name is Dazja (pronounced Duh-zjay) and I have been a lash artist for almost a decade, and a trainer for almost 8 years. I’ve been a lover of beauty got my entire life and felt like I was always going to do something in the beauty industry. I am the founder of Style & Face Studios, a luxury lash and brow salon in Parkville Mo, as well as Style & Face Professional and training and eventually product brand.
I started out as an assistant hairstylist at a hair extension salon, but realized I didn’t have the same passion for doing hair anymore so I wanted to try something new. I did clusters and this salon and fell in love with how lashes made women feel. I felt like I couldn’t make a living off of a $30 lash service so I decided to look more into it & that’s how my journey began.
What sets me apart is my love for beauty and eye for all things that are aesthetically pleasing. I am a glam girl at heart and try to breathe that into everything I do.
I have mastered the “soft beat” or “natural glam” when it comes to lash extensions. I understand the importance of understanding what my clients want and giving them exactly that.
When it comes to teaching I love helping people discover just hope dope they really are. That they can do and be the highest version of themselves if they would believe that to be true, get a propped understand, practice & have faith.
I mainly offer lash extensions, but also lash lifts & tints as well as brow waxes & tints & micro shading. On the education side I offer beginner classic & hybrid lash class as well as launching the mini masterclasses. I believe there will be about 13 of them once they are all done. But this first one is launching this summer.
Thing I am most proud of is the ability to take anything and make it beautiful. If it’s not glam I don’t want it… but if it needs glam I can add it.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
Because lashes require fills I get to see my clients on a consistent basis. Because I see them so consistently (every 2-3 weeks) we go from strangers to counselor and client to friends to doing life together.
From the beginning I create a warm and welcoming and very pretty environment for them. If they are shy at first and don’t want to talk, I don’t force them too. I allow them to enjoy our time together as they please. Over time with the length of our appointments and the frequency of our time together they begin to open up and share and that builds relationship. I’ve gone through, marriage, death, miscarriage, growing families, cheating husbands, kids graduations, new jobs, family trips, you name it with them. We’ve shared countless laughs & tears together.
I always show up genuine, kind, and professional & they know they can trust me. And trust builds loyalty.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Whewww, can I?! One of the moments that stand out me was the season of me going from doing classic lashes to volume lashes. I had taken a class to learn volume but hated it because it was soooo hard at first. I hated it so much that I gave up trying to be good at it. Two moments happened that let me know I had to make a change.
The first moment, I client called in a desperate situation needing a fill but only wore full volume. When I spoke to her I told her I had learned volume but never did it before on a client and was willing to try if she was okay with it. She agreed. The appointment took sooooo long & she wasn’t really full at all, but she thanked me and paid anyway. In that moment I felt like as a business I wasn’t able to give my clients what they wanted and that really hurt me.
The second instance was when a representative from Netflix called asking to do a trial run for a Netflix show. She told me how everything would go, had me sign an NDA, and we set up the appointment. She didn’t have a preference for what she wanted but told me to do what I thought would look best on her. Guess what would look best on her?? You got it… volume lashes. Guess what I will couldn’t really do?! Right again… volume lashes. *deep sigh* So although I did her lashes It wasn’t what it should have been because I still couldn’t do volume lashes. And although I have her the best set I could I knew exactly what was holding me back.
I decided after those two instances that I would never stand in my own way again… at least not in that way.
