We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Karen Sullivan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Karen, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Oh Yes! At 39. My health had declined tremendously. I knew I had to take a deep dive to understand what was happening to my body. That experience propelled me to leave my corporate job and go back to school for nutrition.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At 30 I was diagnosed with thryoid cancer. at 39 my health took another downturn that prompted me to go back to school for nutrition. My first school was IIN and my second coaching school graduated in 2019 with my Functional Medicine Certification in Nutrition.
Fast forward to 2024 I opened The Wellness Stop located in Port Jefferson NY. Our space is a place for the community to gather, grow, learn. They have full access to my coaching services and all our curated products, that promote less chemicals in and on the body.
We also host classes, workshops, book clubs and have started to branch into retreats.
I am most proud of:
Celebrating our 1 year Anniversary and we are now expanding our wellness footprint to offer more services like massage, accupunture and red light therapies, still offering In-BodyComposition Testing, vagus nerve resets, and our foot bath sessions too.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Stick to what feeds your soul and heart. Find something that makes an impact into and onto to your community.
There is that saying: Do what you love and you wil never work a day in your life. There is truth in that indeed.
We have to make money and provide for ourselves and our families, Working in a field that truly inspires you will make such a difference in your mental and physical diet. This also comes with being surrounded by individuals that truly appreciate your work ethic and what skillset you bring to the table.
Do not sacrifice your peace for anyone.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Stick to what your good at. Come from a place of credbility and consistency .
