We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kennedy Homan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedy, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to capture moments that feel like real, living memories—warm, honest, and full of quiet magic. This matters to me because I’m a deeply nostalgic person at heart; I truly believe our most meaningful memories aren’t posed or perfect—they’re the fleeting in-between moments that often go unnoticed. Growing up, I realized how much I cherish the photos that bring me back to the small details—soft glances, genuine laughter, the way someone holds your hand when they think no one’s watching. Those moments remind us who we are and who we love. That’s why I approach photography with heart, connection, and intention: to help people slow down, be present, and hold onto the feelings that make life so beautiful.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a wedding and lifestyle photographer with a heart rooted deeply in nostalgia and connection. I’ve always been a super sentimental person—someone who holds tight to the little moments and the quiet details that make life feel full and real. That’s exactly what led me to pick up a camera in the first place. I didn’t want to just take photos—I wanted to keep feelings.
I got into photography because I realized how powerful it is to freeze moments that would otherwise slip by unnoticed: soft glances, gentle laughter, the warmth of a sunset wrapping around two people in love. Over the years, this has grown into a mission to help people slow down and truly feel their moments, not just pose for them.
I offer documentary style photography that feels warm, dreamy, and honest—whether it’s a cozy in-home family session, an engagement shoot at golden hour, your cherished wedding day, or simply a walk through a favorite spot that feels like home. My sessions aren’t about stiff posing or forced smiles; they’re about guiding you into natural, unguarded moments where you can fully be yourself. I believe the best photos aren’t just seen—they’re felt.
What sets me apart is my approach. I don’t rush through shoots or force perfect poses. Instead, I create a space where you can relax, connect, and share real moments—because those in-between glances and quiet interactions are where your true story lives.
I’m most proud when my clients tell me that looking at their photos brings them right back to how it felt to be there. That’s the heart of my work: creating images that feel like tangible memories, full of warmth and connection.
For anyone considering working with me, I want you to know that my goal isn’t perfection—it’s truth, beauty, and honest emotion. If you want photos that feel like memories and an experience that feels like a gentle pause in your busy life, I’m here for you. Let’s create something beautiful together—and share a few good laughs along the way.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has honestly been focusing on creating an experience that people genuinely enjoy and want to share with others. I put a lot of care into making my sessions feel easy and comfortable, guiding my clients naturally so they can relax and just be themselves. I always follow through on what I promise—whether that’s delivering images on time, answering questions quickly, or going the extra mile to make sure they feel taken care of.
That combination of a pleasant, stress-free experience and genuine trust has led to word-of-mouth growth for my business. Happy clients love to tell their friends and family about how their session felt just as good as the photos looked. Referrals and repeat clients have been huge for my business, because people come back when they know they can trust me to deliver not just beautiful images, but a memorable experience from start to finish.
At the end of the day, the best marketing I’ve ever had is simply staying true to my mission: creating warm, nostalgic images while treating every client with care and honesty.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to unlearn is believing that I wasn’t “good enough” or “qualified enough” to call myself a photographer. Like so many creatives, I struggled with imposter syndrome, especially in the beginning. I would look at other photographers’ work and constantly compare myself, worrying that I didn’t belong in the same space or that people wouldn’t see value in what I created.
What helped me break out of that mindset was realizing that the very thing I thought made me “less than” was actually what made my work meaningful: my heart for nostalgia, my deep care for real, imperfect moments, and my dedication to creating trust with my clients. My clients weren’t hiring me for perfect, magazine-style poses—they were choosing me because I help them feel comfortable, seen, and genuinely themselves.
I had to unlearn the idea that there’s a single definition of what makes someone “professional enough.” I learned that my connection with people and my ability to make them feel at ease is just as valuable as any technical skill. Once I embraced that, I stopped comparing so much and leaned fully into what makes my work mine—and my business has grown so much because of it.
