We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lay-Cee Dotson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lay-Cee below.
Lay-Cee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission behind my podcast is having honest and transparent conversations.
I model this on my episodes and with in my life because it’s taught me to fully lean in and learn different perspectives.
When creating my podcast it started as a passion project and as I stepped in more to produce and edit my episodes – being honest and transparent cultivated a safe space to have conversations that were hard. It changed perspectives to not only disagree respectively but understand where one was coming from.
Growing up having honest and transparent conversations was very taboo. I grew up in a time where the family secrets, hardships and issues were simply something that was hidden. To only be explored as an adult and eventually had me questioning my own perspective. I wanted to make sure my children didn’t have that experience and were listened to and respected. I especially strived to have a healthy relationship with my husband where transparency and honesty flowed without trying. This ultimately drove me to empower and create this within my podcast.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Lay-Cee — a millennial wife, mom of three, and a corporate manager by day. By night (and sometimes during nap time!), I’m the creator and voice behind “Signed, Lay-Cee Podcast” formally The Dottedline Podcast. I started podcasting in January 2021 as a passion project, rooted in my childhood dream of becoming a newscaster. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something much bigger — a safe space for real, honest conversations that people don’t always feel comfortable having out loud.
With no background in media, production, or editing, I took on the challenge as a one-woman show. I have a business degree, a lot of curiosity, and an even bigger desire to learn by doing. Over the course of five seasons, I’ve created a platform centered on transparency, growth, and the kind of storytelling that encourages listeners to think deeper and ask themselves, “why not me?”
Signed, Lay-Cee Podcast stands out because of its raw, unfiltered approach to life’s complexities — from marriage and motherhood to identity and healing. I don’t have all the answers, but I do create the space to ask the questions. My goal is to make others feel seen, inspired, and empowered to step into their truth.
Whether you’re tuning in for encouragement, curiosity, or a fresh perspective, I want people to know that this work is grounded in authenticity. I’m most proud of building something from scratch, consistently showing up, and helping others feel less alone through shared experiences. This isn’t just content — it’s connection.
So if you’ve ever wondered, “Am I the only one?” — the answer is no. Pull up a seat. You’re welcome here.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative — especially as the voice behind Signed, Lay-Cee Podcast — is creating space for honesty and connection. There’s something powerful about using your voice to tell stories that resonate, ask questions that make people pause, and share experiences that make others feel seen.
I don’t take it lightly when someone reaches out and says, “That episode felt like you were talking to me,” or “I didn’t even know I needed to hear that.” It reminds me that there’s value in vulnerability. As a creative, it’s not just about producing content — it’s about creating impact. And knowing that my words can spark reflection, healing, or even a shift in perspective? That’s the most rewarding part.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Absolutely. One of the most defining parts of my journey — and a true testament to my resilience — is simply the fact that I’m here, thriving, and creating something meaningful out of pain.
I’m the product of a mother who battled mental health issues and a father who was a murderer. That kind of beginning could have easily written a different story for me. Growing up, I carried a lot of heaviness, confusion, and trauma that I didn’t always have the words for. But over time — through therapy, faith, self-reflection, and community — I learned that healing is possible, even if it doesn’t look perfect.
Today, I’m a wife and a mom of three. I’ve built a beautiful family rooted in love, stability, and honesty — the very things I longed for as a child. And I still make time to create The Dottedline Podcast, a space where real conversations can happen and where healing can be modeled out loud.
My resilience lives in my choice to break generational cycles, to be vulnerable, and to share my story so others know they’re not alone. I didn’t let where I came from define where I’m going — and that, to me, is the truest form of strength.
