We recently connected with Migle Metcalfe and have shared our conversation below.
Migle , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Wedding photography is changing fast with digital cameras always evolving. Also in recent years, the vintage aesthetic has surged in popularity among modern couples seeking to infuse their weddings with a sense of nostalgia and timeless charm. I choose a path of mixing film with digital, and turn to film photography as a key element in achieving this romantic look, drawn by its unique qualities that digital formats often struggle to replicate.
This approach sets my work apart and creates images that stand out. It’s about more than just taking photos; it’s about offering a rich, artistic experience that clients can’t get anywhere else.
Planning wedding photo list around film means I select shots with intention. Decide which moments need the organic feel of film and which can be captured digitally. For example, I create a shot list that highlights key moments perfect for film — couple portraits, candid reactions, or detail shots. This prep sets the tone for a more artistic, thoughtful wedding photography.
By matching digital to film I create a cohesive film style look. I use manual editing techniques that unify the color tone, contrast, and texture to mimic the soft, warm tone of film. Maintaining a consistent look helps my brand stand out and reassures clients that every image is part of one beautiful story.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Born and raised in Lithuania, I’ve always had liking for picking up my and other peoples photo cameras, and take photos of others. Fast forward after I moved to London, United Kingdom – I found myself juggling a corporate job and taking photos for my friends and their friends events here and there. not long after I decided to turn my hobby into a paycheck and pretty organically people started asking to photograph their weddings.
My first two weddings were of my friends getting married, and let me tell you, nothing is more nerve-wracking than shooting your best friend’s wedding!
After 13 years of London life, in 2017 I made yet another move and exchanged big city life to Lake Tahoe mountains, and now call sunny California my home. Relocating to Tahoe changed everything for my wedding photography business. The natural beauty, easy access, and booming wedding scene made Tahoe the perfect place to thrive. Moving here unlocked a world of new clients and stunning scenes that elevated every shoot.
I learned what couples wanted. Studying competitors helped me find gaps in the market. I found my niche—outdoor weddings combined with lakeside sessions photographed on colorful film. Enchanting blues of the lake and greens of signature Tahoe pine trees became my aesthetic style.
Capturing moments on camera is more than just snapping photos. It’s about telling stories, creating memories, and showing your best side. But lots of clients face common problems when hiring a photographer—things like uneven quality, unclear ideas, or feeling unsure about the process. Choosing a photographer who truly knows how to solve these issues can make all the difference. That’s what I focus on—providing personalized service and consistent high-quality results.
A great photo session starts with understanding what client wants. I always begin with a chat or questionnaire to get to know their personality and goals. Do you want relaxed family portraits, professional headshots, fun engagement photos or romantic and candid wedding gallery? Asking the right questions helps me see client vision clearly. When I know the expectations upfront, I can plan accordingly and avoid surprises.
My goal is simple—to solve biggest photography problems with skill, care, and personalized attention. I focus on understanding my clients needs, producing consistent high-quality results, and making the process enjoyable. What sets me apart from others is my passion for authentic, beautiful images that truly capture your essence and my dedication to exceeding expectations.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Discovering the right tools and community early on can make a huge difference in photography career. When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to feel lost. You face challenges like mastering your camera, finding inspiration, and figuring out how to grow your business. Having access to the right resources speeds up your progress and builds your confidence.
Platforms like MasterClass, CreativeLive, and Skillshare offer structured classes taught by experts. These courses help build skills faster with step-by-step lessons. Whether it’s shooting techniques or editing skills, online courses give you a clear roadmap.
YouTube is a goldmine for free tutorials. Channels like Peter McKinnon, Jessica Kobeissi, and Mango Street break down camera settings and editing tips simply. Watching these videos can inspire you and teach you new tricks without needing to spend a dime.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Apart from website acting as my digital storefront of my best images where potential clients decide if they want to work with me, I use social media as my marketing tool.
Not all social media sites are for photographers. Instagram is perfect for eye-catching visuals. Pinterest drives views for wedding and niche photography. Facebook helps to connect locally and post updates. I focus on Instagram and Pinterest platforms. Engagement rates on these sites show couples are actively seeking wedding content, making social media a goldmine for photography business.
A consistent style, showcasing a curated portfolio and sharing reviews from happy couples builds trust. When your social media feels authentic and professional, more couples will picture themselves working with you.
I share real stories behind weddings that I photograph, show candid and intimate moments, full scale of real and genuine emotions that truly reflect unique stories of my couples, formal shots, and tiny details like rings or flower arrangements.
Collaborating with other vendors like wedding planners, makeup artists and florists by re-sharing each other’s work helps the reach tremendously.
It is important to keep learning about platform updates, explore new features, and analyze your results often. Your future clients are searching for authentic, beautiful photos—make sure they find your work. Regularly review your analytics and adjust your approach to keep capturing more weddings and growing your brand.
