We recently connected with Cam Campbell and have shared our conversation below.
Cam , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
When I first started my business, I was already deep in the grind—almost a decade of cutting hair, building a reputation, and doing what I had to do to survive. I had the skill, the drive, and the vision, but I didn’t always believe I had the permission. I was waiting on things to make sense, waiting for the “perfect” time, not realizing that clarity comes after action.
Looking back, I know now that every year I waited, I was sitting on potential. Not just money—but impact, confidence, and freedom. If I had started sooner, I would’ve grown faster, failed faster, and learned the lessons that eventually changed my life a lot earlier.
Starting later might’ve meant more comfort, more stability—but it would’ve also meant more regret. So while I’m grateful for the timing God allowed, I now encourage anybody on the edge of starting: don’t wait for the green light—be the green light.
Your gift is ready now. Even if you’re not.

Cam , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, I’m Cam—a master barber, artist, and business owner with over 10 years of professional experience behind the chair.
I didn’t start cutting hair out of necessity—I chose this path because I saw the power in it. The transformation. The confidence. The connection. I’ve always loved creating with my hands, and barbering became the perfect blend of art, skill, and service.
I currently own and operate my own barbershop in Roswell, Georgia, where I specialize in clean, fast, high-quality haircuts and custom designs. But for me, the cut is just the beginning—what I truly offer is an experience. My clients leave looking fresh and feeling empowered.
Now, I’m expanding my vision with the upcoming launch of Camray & Co, a lifestyle brand and creative hub focused on growth, inspiration, and helping others build something that’s theirs. Through this brand, I plan to blend content, consulting, and community for barbers, creatives, and everyday people trying to walk in their purpose.
Here’s what I offer right now:
• Precision haircuts and detailed designs
• A welcoming, no-pressure environment for real people and real conversations
• Content that reflects who I am—faith-driven, honest, funny, and healing
• A sneak peek into my journey of evolving as a woman, entrepreneur, and creator
What sets me apart:
I move with heart. In a male-dominated space, I’ve created a lane of my own—built on skill, speed, care, and creativity. I bring a unique energy to the chair that blends professionalism with realness. I’m not just cutting hair; I’m helping people feel whole again, one cut at a time.
What I’m most proud of:
Creating something out of vision and grit. Growing a shop that reflects my values. And building a brand that’s going to change lives—not just mine, but others who need that extra push to step into their gift.
What I want you to know:
This isn’t just a career—it’s a calling. And I’m just getting started. Whether you’re in my chair, scrolling through my content, or waiting on what’s next from me, just know: I’m building this with you in mind. Growth starts here.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my career happened when I was laid off from corporate America.
At the time, I wasn’t cutting hair on the side or building a backup plan—I was working a full-time job, doing what I thought was the “safe” route. When I got laid off, I had a decision to make: sit in fear, or move in faith.
I chose to bet on myself.
Instead of rushing back into another 9–5, I took a leap and started an apprenticeship in barbering. I didn’t know exactly where it would lead, but something in me said, this is it. That apprenticeship became the foundation of everything I’ve built since.
It taught me more than just how to cut—it taught me resilience. It taught me how to start over without shame, how to lead with my gift, and how to trust myself even when the future felt uncertain. And most importantly, it proved I didn’t need to rely on anyone else to create the life I wanted.
Now, I’m a full-time barber and shop owner. I’ve built a business, a brand, and a mindset rooted in ownership. That layoff didn’t break me—it built me. And I’ll forever be grateful that I had the courage to start again.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing your clientele is rooted in consistency, customer service, visibility, and connection. Show up the same way every time—with clean, quality cuts, great energy, and a professional experience. When people know what to expect and feel taken care of, they keep coming back. Post consistently so people can see your work and personality, and make booking with you simple and stress-free.
Great customer service goes a long way. Be intentional—learn your clients’ names, preferences, and make them feel seen. Offer referral incentives, follow up after first visits, and treat every client like they matter—because they do. When your cuts are solid and your presence is memorable, your clientele will grow naturally.
