We were lucky to catch up with Janee Hudson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Janee, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
As a single mother, I understand the stress that comes with event planning and strive to create a seamless experience for my clients. Whether it’s a baby shower, wedding, engagement party, gender reveal, or a child’s birthday, I provide full-service event planning, including decor, vendor coordination, and day-of coordination.
In addition to traditional event planning, I also use my home as a venue to support local and small artists who may not meet the minimum capacity requirements of larger venues or have the financial means to book them. By offering an affordable and intimate space, I aim to foster community engagement and artistic expression while supporting small businesses and creators.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Janee Hudson, the owner and operator of Hudson House Events. I’ve always been the friend who turns an idea into a full-blown experience—I love celebrating people, creating memories, and the beautiful balance of planning and creating that goes into curating an event. The seed for Hudson House sprouted while I was in “DIY-queen” mode, planning my own wedding. I served as my own planner, fell in love with the name “Hudson House,” and even launched an early website featuring home-themed packages like “The Cottage” and “The White Picket Fence,” complete with photos of every detail I’d proudly crafted for the wedding. I didn’t even own a home yet.
After my divorce, the idea went quiet for a while. Then, years and a house later, a good friend—Adrianna, lead singer of Garden Child—needed an intimate venue to debut a solo project. She suggested my backyard. I got even more excited than she did, built a stage, and Hudson House Events was reborn.

What I Do
Full-service planning for weddings, concerts, birthdays, retreats, and more
Décor design (including handmade centerpieces and balloon décor)
Vendor sourcing and coordination
Day-of logistics and on-site management
My goal is simple: you enjoy your event, I handle the stress. I step in, bring order to the chaos, and make sure every detail reflects your vision so you can be fully present.

The Venue
I also open my home as an affordable, welcoming outdoor venue—ideal for intimate performances, baby showers, gender reveals, engagement parties, and other small gatherings. It’s a space where local creatives and growing families can celebrate without the high price tag or guest-count minimums of traditional venues.

Why It Matters
Every wedding or event should feel like a beautiful celebration, not a overwhelming checklist. At Hudson House Events, I curate every detail personally and treat every client like family. This isn’t just a business—it’s my passion. I take pride in making life’s milestones more joyful and far less stressful for families, artists, and entrepreneurs alike.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve always had an “us” mentality—I wanted everyone around me to grow with me, both in life and in business. So when I started Hudson House Events, I assumed the people closest to me would be all in, helping me build this dream from the ground up. But I quickly realized that not everyone is meant to go everywhere with you.
It was tough accepting that most days I’d be running this as a one-woman show. There were moments I almost gave up—the dream felt too big, too heavy for just me to carry. But I’ve learned that rebuilding solo is better than staying stagnant. Sometimes you have to go first, set the tone, and build the foundation before the right people with aligned visions come along.
Since making that pivot, the opportunities that have shown up remind me every day that I’m on the right path—and that this season of doing it alone is preparing me for the team that’s still on the way.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Honestly, referrals have been the most powerful. In this business, trust is everything—people are handing over some of the most important moments of their lives, and they want someone who comes highly recommended. When a past client or even a guest at an event refers me, that trust is already built.
I make it a point to provide an experience that people can’t help but talk about—whether that’s a beautiful setup, a seamless day, or just going the extra mile. I also stay connected with my clients after the event, and I’m not shy about asking them to share my name if they know someone planning something special. I’ve even started offering small referral rewards and building stronger relationships with other vendors. It’s all about creating a network where we all grow together.
