Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Valeriia Telemaniuk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Valeriia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest and most life-changing risks I’ve ever taken was moving to the United States from Ukraine, leaving behind everything I had built — my home, my career, and my comfort zone. I had been a successful nail artist in Ukraine for many years, with a strong reputation and a loyal client base. But when the war started, I made the difficult decision to relocate to a new country with a new language, new culture, and no guarantees.
When I arrived in the U.S., I barely spoke English, had no local clients, and didn’t know where to start. But I believed in my skills and passion. I took a leap of faith and opened my own nail studio in San Diego. I focused on high-quality European techniques, health-conscious products, and premium service. Slowly but surely, I began to build a new client base from scratch — mostly English-speaking women who appreciated my precision and style.
Within just a few months, I reached full capacity with over 100 regular clients. I didn’t stop there — I went on to compete internationally and won 7 first places and 2 second places in major nail championships, later becoming an accredited judge for international competitions.
Taking this risk changed my life. It taught me that talent, hard work, and courage can open doors even in the most uncertain times.

Valeriia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Beyond competitions and judging, I am deeply passionate about education and mentorship in the nail industry. I regularly participate in international masterclasses and marathons to sharpen my skills and stay up to date with the latest trends and techniques. I also love sharing my knowledge with other professionals, helping them elevate their standards and build successful careers rooted in quality and creativity.
What I’m most proud of is the trust and loyalty I’ve built with my clients. Many of them become long-term clients who value the consistency, artistry, and care I bring to every appointment. My studio is not just a place for nails — it’s a space where people feel safe, inspired, and seen.
At the heart of my brand is a belief that nails are more than beauty — they’re personal expression, discipline, and a reflection of inner confidence. I want every client and fellow artist to feel empowered through what I create.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of consistent, high-quality work and genuine word-of-mouth. I focus on providing not just a beautiful manicure, but an exceptional client experience from start to finish. Each client receives a completely personalized service using non-toxic, premium materials, and I take the time to educate them about nail health and care.
Another key factor is my social media presence. I regularly post macro shots of my work, behind-the-scenes content, and competition highlights, which allows potential clients to get to know my style and standards. I don’t use paid advertising — my growth is completely organic, driven by trust, recommendations, and visual proof of my work.
Also, I accept clients only by appointment, which helps me maintain the quality of each service and create a comfortable, exclusive atmosphere. I believe when people feel seen, safe, and inspired, they naturally want to return and bring their friends.

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I moved to the U.S. and started from scratch, social media became my main tool for growth. I focused on building my audience through consistency, quality, and authenticity.
I created high-quality macro content that highlights not only my nail designs, but also the level of cleanliness, precision, and technique I bring to each appointment. I made sure my work spoke for itself — clean lines, healthy nails, and balanced architecture.
Today, I have almost 2,000 followers — half of them are my clients, and the other half are nail artists from all over the world. Many of them followed me after seeing my competition work or my role as an international judge. Some started reaching out for advice, collaboration, or even mentoring.
For those just starting, my biggest advice is: stay consistent and show your real process. Don’t chase trends — focus on building your own signature style. Talk to your audience like they’re sitting across from you. People follow passion, not perfection.
