We were lucky to catch up with Javier Cabrero recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Javier , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Risks aren’t always about money. Sometimes, the biggest leap is about trust. I have found that trusting yourself to take the plunge and trusting someone else to jump with you is a type of risk like no other. For me, risk has shown up as a series of moments where I had to trust own instincts even where there was not a clear path of how to do something or even work with someone.
When I decided to take on a partner, we did not know each well and the only shared history we had were a few small business transactions. After a few conversations, we decided to partner, without a roadmap or even safety net. What we did have was an alignment of vision, values, and an unspoken mutual faith that somehow, if we each gave it our all, something good would come of it. Saying yes to working together meant saying yes to uncertainty, to learning as we went, and to believing that I could build something real without having every answer upfront.
Risk isn’t always flashy. Sometimes it’s subtle. It’s showing up even when you’re unsure. It’s trusting the process, the people, and most of all, yourself.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in Cuba and came to the US with a deep appreciation for hard work, adaptability, and a mind wired for problem-solving. In high school, I fell in love with cars; not just how they look or drive, but how they work, how every part tells a story when you pay attention. That passion turned into a craft, and over time I’ve learned that working in this field takes more than technical skill. It takes commitment, heart, and the kind of cleverness that comes from really caring about what you do. Whether I’m under the hood or tackling a new challenge, I bring focus, creativity, and a genuine love for figuring things out.
We run a full-service machine shop where I focuson rebuilding and tuning engines. We essentially bring power and performance back to life, one build at a time. Whether it’s a daily driver, a weekend project, or something a little more custom, we treat every engine like it matters, because to our clients, it does. What makes us unique from others isn’t just the quality of the work (though we take serious pride in that), it’s the way we show up for people. Whatever someone brings through our doors, we do our best to help, there is no judgment, no shortcuts, just honest, committed work. For us, it’s about building trust as much as it’s about building and crafting engines.
What I’m most proud of, though, goes beyond the machines. It’s the chance to help others and to teach in a way I wish I had been taught. When I was learning, a lot of knowledge was gatekept. People held back what they knew, and it made the path harder than it needed to be. I’ve made it a point to do the opposite. Whether I’m explaining something to a client or mentoring someone in the shop, I believe in sharing what I know openly and honestly.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I first met Lino Alberto Perez through some casual small business exchanges of me bring stuff to the machine shop; nothing too serious at first, just a few conversations in passing. What really shifted things and laid the groundwork for our partnership, happened in the shop one afternoon. I had just finished rebuilding an engine, and Lino happened to be there when I fired it up. The sound, the smoothness, the response; it spoke for itself. He stood there, listening for a moment, then looked at me with this expression that said, “Okay, you really know your stuff”. It wasn’t a pitch, and I wasn’t trying to prove anything, it was just the work doing the talking.
From that moment on, the respect was real. And more than that, it was mutual. That moment turned into a conversation, which turned into a collaboration, and eventually into the business partnership we have now. It all started with trust. His in me, and mine in the idea that doing good, honest work will always draw the right people in.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Brand loyalty, for us, isn’t about gimmicks or flashy marketing for us it is about honesty, helpfulness, and genuinely putting our clients’ needs first. Every person who works with us gets treated like family, because that’s how we see it, and when you care about your clients like family, you do right by them. There are no cutting corners, no upselling things they don’t need, just solid, respectful work that is in their best interest.
We go out of our way to explain things clearly, to involve clients in the process, and to make sure they feel informed and confident about every decision. That’s also why we stay active on social media and YouTube. We do not just to show off finished results, but to walk people through the steps, the details, and the thought that goes into every job. Whether it’s a rebuild, a tuning session, or a behind-the-scenes look at a day in the shop, we bring people along for the ride. It’s all part of building trust and that’s what keeps people coming back. They know we’re not just here to fix engines; we’re here to take care of them.
