We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chelsea Bible. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chelsea below.
Chelsea, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always known I wanted to pursue a creative path. I’ve been sewing and crafting things from a very young age. Growing up less fortunate I had no choice but to customize or create the cool things I wanted. I would walk around the neighborhood looking for items I could recycle. I would ask my mom to take me to Home Depot, buy all the spray paint I could and spend all day upcycling. It was obvious I was skilled with my hands. I am actually a descendant of a creative woman. My great-grandmother was a seamstress, hairdresser, and jewelry maker, so, an artistic path was written before I could even think to choose something else. I’ve always had a deep love for fashion and art. It was a calling I couldn’t escape. I always looked at something and thought, “I could make that”, and I did! I just kept making things and built-up years’ worth of experience. In 2020 I decided to quit my job and fully submerge myself in the art world.

Chelsea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a sustainable textile artist from Grand Prairie, Tx. I first learned how to sew in high school and briefly studied Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing at El Centro Community College. My inspiration comes from my everyday life and wanting to share my mental health issues with other people. I pride myself in handcrafting one-of-a-kind pieces from recycled material. I live to create, and art is my soul purpose for existing. My work is my way of expressing myself without having to speak. I strive to make the madness in my mind beautiful. I am all about turning my feelings into positive, colorful pieces everyone can enjoy. When it comes to my work, I am not limited to one medium. Sustainability is embedded in my core, so I will use just about anything in the textile realm. I have always taken “junk” and turned it into my treasure; I had no choice. Growing up we didn’t have much so God gave me the ability to be creative, and I ran with it. I think my story is worth telling, and what better author is there to tell it than me? I am heavily influenced by my favorite artists Warhol and Basquiat. The vibrancy and rebellious spirit of their work describes me to a T. I strive to perfectly convey how I feel about everything going on in my world through art. I am not the most vocal, but I am very observant. Creatively expressing my observations is my foundation. All I ever wanted to do was create. All I have ever known was sewing and painting. When I was younger, I was silenced, which is why my art is so loud and expressive. My inner child is the source behind my magic, and a force to be reckoned with.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative is connecting with people. Making a cool piece I’m really proud of is one thing, but getting positive feedback from everyday people invokes a feeling like no other. Wearing your heart on your sleeve and have someone be inspired to create or tell their story is a gratifying feeling. It’s the connections that keep me going. I put my soul into my art and hearing how people relate to the theme, colors, or shapes warms my heart. I feel like I’m not alone and it’s okay to talk about the things I’m going through.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to simply be the best. I want my name etched in history with the greats. I want my art and message to live far beyond me. I want to give my children ta head start and be the beneficiaries of telling my story. I want people to be moved, feel, and see beyond themselves when they are in the presence of my work. I strive to be better today than I was the day before and I hope I can make people feel that within themselves too.
