We recently connected with ADRIANA PASCUAL and have shared our conversation below.
ADRIANA , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I was innately a performer from the moment I could basically walk! As a child, I grew up with parents that loved playing music, loved to dance and sign in our living room. Any chance he could get, my dad would take out his guitar and play songs that my sisters and I would memorize so we could sing along. So during family gatherings, my sisters and I would put on shows and perform. I think it might have been helpful to speed up the process if I had had formal dancing, singing and theater lessons as soon as it was evident that I had a passion for performing. However, I am a firm believer that everything happened the way it was meant to be. There were definitely some “obstacles” that stood in my way of learning more in the past. One of them was the mayor illness that one of my younger sisters had while I was a young teenager – it was a painful and difficult situation that took up all the energy, money and time from all of us at home therefore there was not much time nor money for anything outside of focusing on my sisters recuperation. Nevertheless, I strongly feel that that experience made me a more sensitive and empathetic actress.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the industry through one of my sisters who was a professional make up artist for video and print commercials. She insisted that I could work in commercials and all I needed was a headshot (black and white back then!) and her expertise as a hair and makeup professional. I listened to her advice, got some headshots and the rest is history! In addition to being an actress for commercials, I am also a voice over talent – which I absolutely love! I have voiced tv and radio commercials for giants like McDonalds, American Airlines, CVS, Publix and so many more. What sets me apart from other talent in my industry, is my natural salt and pepper hair. When I first started working in the mid 90’s, you would never see a woman on camera with grey hair. And if you did it was always a grandmother type. That’s no longer the case. I stepped into my 50’s with my natural salt and pepper hair, and it’s been a game changer! There really aren’t that many women my type so it’s been great for my career. Another thing that I am most proud of is that I am bilingual. Being fluent in my parents native tongue, Spanish, has opened many, many doors for me as a performer.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media organically – one video at a time! I don’t believe in “buying” followers. I believe in showing your creativity and in creating some kind of branding. I would say for those just starting out building a social media presence to be authentic. Be you! Of course you can learn from other creatives on social media, and even use some of the styles others use – I know I do sometimes. But at the end of the day, there is only one you so use it to the max!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is really to inspire others to follow their dreams. It’s not just about acting, it could be anything you want to do. I just say to not let fear or age, stop them from going for it. Time is going to pass no matter what and today is the best day to take that first step. That is truly what keeps me going. And making my family proud as well!
