We recently connected with Jemorra Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Jemorra, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
Yes, I’m very happy as a business owner. Being an entrepreneur allows me to create and manage schedule that supports both my family and my clients.
While this interview highlights my journey as a businesswoman , I’m also a wife of eight years and mother to three amazing littles.. Ages 10,7 and 6. Who all have busy lives of their own. Balancing it all isn’t always easy, owning my business gives me a level of flexibility that’s truly priceless.
That said, I’d be lying if I said I never wonder what life would be like with a regular 9-5. Those thoughts usually creeps in during slower seasons in the business, but even then I’m reminded of how faithful God has been to me. Every time I have faced uncertainty, He’s carried me through! My faith is what sustains me in those moments of doubt. It grouds me and keeps me moving.
At the end of the day being a loctician and owning Morrlocs isn’t just a job. It’s part of my purpose, and that’s something I wouldn’t trade for any traditional career path.

Jemorra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jemorra, I am the owner of Morralocs!
Honestly,I became a locticians by divine intervention. My journey started out as pure necessity. My family had locs, and like many families , we were looking for ways to save money.
So I started practicing on our own hair , learning through trial, error and whole lot of patience.
What began as a way to care for my loved ones slowly turned into something much bigger. As I worked my skill grew, and so did my passion for the craft. I became more intentional about learning. Studying techniques, and understanding hair health, and really diving into the culture and care of locs. Over time, what was once a way to save money became the foundation for Morralocs.
Now four years later , I’m proud to say that what started in my own home has grown, and continues to grow into a business built on quality, connection and care. Sometimes the most unexpected beginnings lead to your true calling.
In addition to that I am most proud of the space I’ve created, not just a studio salon chair , but a place where clients feel seen , heard and cared for. Over these years I’ve cultivated trust and connection through art of locs. There’s something deeply personal about working with someone’s crown, and I don’t that responsibility lightly.
What makes me proud isn’t just the beautiful loc transformations or repairs, though I do take great pride in that work. It’s the moments when clients tell me they feel renewed, confident, or simply at pease when they leave my chair.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
A story of how I built my audience and advice for others just starting out,
Social media has played a huge role in building Morralocs and connecting with clients I may have never reached otherwise. I didn’t have a fancy strategy when I started. I committed to showing up consistently.
I posted my work regularly, engaged with followers , used hashtags( #morralocs, #stllocticians, #stl) and shared behind-the-scenes moments.
One of then best feelings is when a new clients sits in my chair and I ask, How did you find me ? Nine times out of ten , their answer is : ‘I saw you on instagram”! It never gets old!
My advice for anyone trying to build their presence on social media is simple, Be consistent, even when you don’t feel like it. Don’t get discouraged by slow growth and low likes. Keep posting your work. You never know who’s paying attention.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Absolutely, I’m a big believer in continuous growth , not just as a business owner , but as a woman, wife, and mother.
Some of the biggest shifts in my mindset have come from reading books about self improvement and spiritual growth.
Authors like Jay Shetty, and Sarah Jakes Roberts have had huge impact on how much I approach both life and leadership. Their messages remind me to stay grounded , lead with intention and embrace the process , even when it’s messy.
“The Four Agreement” by Don Miguel Ruiz is another book that changed the way I carry myself, especially in business. The principles, like not taking things personally and always doing your best helps me maintain clarity and peace in a world that can feel chaotic.
Brenè Brown and Oprah have helped me embrace vulnerability, find strength in my story and staying true to my purpose.
But above all having a prayer life has been the midst important influence on how I managed both my business and life. Prayer gives me direction when I feel lost , strength when I feel overwhelmed, and peace when things are uncertain. It’s my daily reset , a space where I surrender my worries and get filled back up so I can pour into others.
My journey with Morralocs hasn’t been easy, but its been purposeful!
