We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danielle Berden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danielle below.
Alright, Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I started creating during the pandemic. Soon I realized I was creating on a mass scale. I was getting great responses around me about my work. Then I realized I could get out there and present my work. My first art booth/ fair was such a great success that I realized this can generate good income and I loved making other people happy with my art. It was a win win making money for something that I love to do and making others happy with it. Then I knew my path as a small business in selling art was the right path for me.

Danielle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from the Netherlands. I had a background in photography. During the pandemic I started experimenting with resin and paint. I literally started as a mom in the garage. I soon realized that creating ocean art and mixing medias like resin and acrylic paint creates amazing visuals. I started exploring paint pouring working with resin and using different techniques. Once I looked at the many things I made in my garage i realized this mom needs to get out of her garage and start selling her art. This is how I came up with my business name Mom In Da Garage. I started with my 1st art fair and realized there was a huge want and market for my art. My art is unique and stands out. I never feel direct competition from anyone in my beach communication because nobody does what I do. I stand out because when I create I feel the balance of the colors and direct the flow of the paint. This comes to me naturally and it shows in my work. I am proud that i wasn’t afraid to get out there and take the risk of funding my new business. There are no mistakes in art and I am continuing to developing my skills and business. I have regular customers. I am being commissioned to make custom pieces. I have been successful in selling my art and know that this doesn’t happen to every artist. I am grateful for this and feel truly at peace when I create art.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love that when I make art time doesn’t exist. Creating is being for me. There is a huge benefit for my mental health when creating art. At the same time I am making extra income and get to make others happy with my art.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support small business go to local art fairs. Don’t buy art that is mass manufactured but support local artists. Follow them refer them to others. Every customer is appreciated by small business and keeps them in business.
