We recently connected with Patience Gyamea and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Patience, thanks for joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
I’m so glad to share this story thank you, CanvasRebel Magazine, for the opportunity.
I have loved earrings since I was a teenager, but as I grew older, that love evolved into a deep obsession with jewelry. My collection grew rapidly filled with beautiful, unique pieces. One day, after buying yet another batch of earrings, I opened my jewelry box and was overwhelmed. “Did I really buy all of this?” I felt guilty. Some pieces I hadn’t even worn. That moment forced me to reflect: how do I curb this obsession without letting go of something that genuinely brings me joy?
Jewelry made me feel confident and expressive. Styling them became my daily ritual, an act of self-celebration. I didn’t want to lose that. I’ve always had a business mindset too; back in school, I used to sell to my classmates. So, the idea clicked: “why not turn this passion into a brand?” I could model the pieces, share my style, and at the same time create a source of income.
The turning point came when people began to take notice. I received constant compliments about my earrings how unique, elegant, and fashionable they were. Friends and colleagues often asked, “Where do you get these? Can you get some for me too?” That feedback gave me the confidence I needed to start my business. They became my first customers and my biggest supporters.
Today, I design and curate accessories that empower self-expression, bold pieces that help people walk taller, feel bolder, and own their space. To me, fashion has purpose. It’s a way of showing up in the world with confidence and intention.
Confident— because I choose to show up boldly and inspire others to do the same.
Purposeful— because every aspect of what I do, from styling to entrepreneurship, is rooted in the goal of empowering others.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Patience Gyamea. I’m Ghanaian and currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Brands and Communications Management. I’m also a model, fashion creative, and entrepreneur.
My modeling journey began in 2017 after graduating from Empire GH Modeling School. That experience laid a strong foundation for my growth, it taught me movement, confidence, and how to represent a brand through image and presence.
Since then, I’ve worked with several brands, including House of G&J, a UK-sourced clothing line, where I was exposed to international styling standards. I’ve also collaborated with local beauty and fashion vendors, helping them communicate their brand through compelling visuals and personal styling.
But for me, modeling is more than just the runway it became the platform that launched my own accessory brand. It’s an extension of my passion for fashion, image, and storytelling. My brand is not just about looking good; it’s about making every day a stylish occasion and helping people feel confident in their own skin.
I design accessories that empower self-expression, bold, unique pieces that help people walk taller, feel bolder, and own their space. It’s fashion with purpose.
That purpose is what drives me. I’m building a brand that does more than sell; it tells a story, creates opportunities, and inspires others. I hope to expand and create employment for local artisans, mentor aspiring models, and promote Ghanaian creativity on a global scale.
What sets me apart is the fusion of my modeling background, branding knowledge, and authentic love for empowering people through fashion. I’m most proud of the community of supporters I’ve built, clients who don’t just buy accessories, but connect with the confidence and identity they represent.
My vision is to build a sustainable creative business that showcases Ghana as a hub of African innovation, beauty, and talent.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting my accessory business has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made but it hasn’t come without challenges.
There are days when sales are encouraging, and then there are days when I make none at all. One of the biggest hurdles I faced early on was not having the right tools to work with especially a phone with a good camera to capture quality images of my accessories. But those tough moments didn’t break me. In fact, they became my motivation. I kept reminding myself that “anything is possible when I commit fully and stay focused.”
I’ve walked from class to class, visited hostels, and gone door-to-door to make sales just to earn enough to reinvest in the next batch of accessories. I often borrowed phones from friends and family whether at their homes, workplaces, or hostels just to take pictures of my products. When I couldn’t find someone to take a photo of me modeling my pieces, I’d do it all myself. I became my own photographer, model, and marketer.
Some days I felt like giving up, but then I’d remember “why I started”. This isn’t just about building a business it’s about creating a legacy. It’s a journey not just for me, but for others who will be inspired and empowered by it. These challenges have taught me how to be resourceful, resilient, and creative, even when I don’t have much to work with.
I’ve learned that every setback is part of the growth process and the strength I’ve built from those moments is what keeps me going.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
My initial capital was quite limited, so I started small. I didn’t want to run at a loss, so I invested in a small batch of accessories just to test the waters. With every sale I made, I reinvested the profit into purchasing a new batch of products. That’s how I’ve grown the business gradually and consistently, with a mindset of sustainability.
At the time, I was also juggling school and had just lost my paid job. That made things even tougher. My business quickly became more than just a passion, it became my main source of income, helping me survive and fund school-related projects.
I’m still working toward acquiring the right equipment to support and grow the business further, like better photography tools, packaging materials, and storage. Funding continues to be a challenge at times, but I’ve learned how to make the most out of what I have and stay resourceful.
This journey has taught me the power of starting small, staying disciplined, and building from the ground up, even when the circumstances aren’t ideal.
I’m also open to partnerships, collaborations, or funding opportunities that can help scale the brand and expand its impact.
