We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney Bailey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Coming up with a business name is not always easy to do. Coming up with the name of my business, BrittneyBCreationz, was definitely a challenge for me. I knew I wanted my business name to represent me in a meaningful way as well as I wanted it to describe the type of business I would be running. After I realized the creative talents I have I wanted a business that would be named after myself. While trying to come up with a good name for my business a close cousin of mines suggested I name my business using my actual name. I didn’t want to use my full name so we both came up with BrittneyBCreationz after playing around with different names. To me BrittneyBCreationz tells the world that I, Brittney have many creative talent’s within.
Brittney, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittney Bailey, owner of BrittneyBCreationz I’m from Athens, GA. I originally started my business back when Covid-19 started. I was just in a car accident the same day my grandpa found out he had stomach cancer. One of the worst days of my life. I was out of work for a while due to my car accident. While being out of work I started thinking of ways to make extra money and new hobbies to do in all the free time I had. It was the month of Father’s Day and I had been exploring on Pinterest seeing different type of baskets. So instantly I decided I wanted to try making some custom Father’s Day baskets. I started going to different stores getting the materials I needed to make some baskets and getting different items to put in each basket. Making each basket unique. Once I finished with the baskets and showed them to my close friends they all kept telling me how good of a job I did and that I should start posting pictures of them on my social media. I did as they suggested and the next thing I know some of everyone was sharing my posts all across social media and people started messaging me about wanting to order baskets. Things went up for me from there. Every holiday or occasion I started getting orders for different kinds of baskets. This is when I started to really realize my talents. Later after this I started seeing different kinds of DIY projects that I started trying. Everything I would try I would post on my social media and people would love my work and be interested in placing orders. And then one day as I was walking through Walmart I seen for the first time a Cricut Explore machine. I knew right then and there that I had to have one. Something inside of me kept telling me that machine is going to take you places with your talents. After seeing the Cricut Explore machine I immediately went to tell a close friend about it. The next day I was surprised with a Cricut Explore machine of my own. I started working on small projects trying to learn the machine and get familiar with it. Which it didn’t take me no time to learn. One of my very first creations I’ve ever did with my Cricut machine was learning how to make a custom T-shirt. I decided to make my grandpa a “strong cancer fighter” T-shirt that came out so good for my first attempt at doing shirts. After seeing how good the T-shirt came out and how so many people loved it on social media I knew right then that doing customized items is my special talent. As I got better with doing customized shirts I then started adding more things under my belt of customized items. I later started doing more things like customized face masks, hoodies, cups, wine glasses, mugs, and more. The more I continued to post and share my work on social media the more people started being interested in my work. It got to the point people started reaching out to me with different things for me to try and different ideas. I love it most when people come to me with different challenges to take on. It shows people how open I am to trying different things. That’s what people love the most about me and my business. I’ll try just about any challenge that’s out there for my business. And every challenge I try I always seem to accomplish the challenge and surprise my customers with how good everything always comes out. Over the years I’ve perfected my craft in so many ways. I’ve expanded my list of things I can customize and still adding to the list. With my business and talents I don’t limit myself. And I personally think that’s what sets me apart from others. You have some people who will only go a certain limit with what they offer. With me and my business there’s no limits. I plan to learn all there is to learn in the custom creation business so I can be able to offer my customers some of everything there is to be customized. I want my customers to feel like anything they need customized they can get it with BrittneyBCreationz. Something I’m most proud of is how much I’ve stepped out on faith with my business and how much I’ve came out my comfort zone. I’ve always been a quiet person so I never imagined myself being a business owner at all. To be able to come out of my comfort zone and start networking with more people has been a major success for my business. I really see my growth within myself for my business and that’s one of the things I’m mostly proud of. I have so many big dreams and goals for BrittneyBCreationz. I’ve always said that one day BrittneyBCreationz will be a big business known in different cities and states. And this is just the beginning.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me the most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been by sharing and posting my work on social media. I feel when I share my work on social media my business spreads around faster. Being consistent with making sure I always post my work really helps send me more clients. It also shows people that I’m still doing what I do. Because sometimes if you stop posting your work people won’t know if you’re still doing what it is you do. Participating in different pop-up shops as a vendor has also been an effective strategy for helping me grow my clientele.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been from participating in different pop-up events as a vendor. When I do pop-up events it brings so many new clients to my business as well as help get my business out there more.
