We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eric “Ton-E” Vasquez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Eric “Ton-E”, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to be a creative when I realized the music I was playing as a DJ was something I could also create myself. The energy was intense whenever the crowds would react to the music. I then found some articles online and some videos on how to produce music. I saved money to buy some equipment that helped me get started making music. As time passed, I studied more, continued to create and experiment, and honed my craft.
My early music used a lot of samples from older records, however, I taught myself some music theory and chords, and my music started to become more my own. I purchased more equipment and tools, and I learned to incorporate these new tools.
At this stage of my musical journey, I’m learning to balance the instincts I have and the new techniques I learn to create my unique sound. I’m always seeking new connections with other creatives in both music and film, so I can help add my talents to others as well.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music industry because of my love for music. I DJed in my early adult years, and the experience started my passion. I decided “why not try doing this myself” and learned how to start making my own music.
What I offer is full music production and composition for other artists and creatives. This includes working with artists to bring their song and lyric ideas to a full song. I can also provide scoring and background music for creatives who make movies, or other video projects. I also provide mixing and mastering services for those who simply want their music to shine and be professionally ready for mainstream consumption.
The vast amount of artists I meet who say “I don’t know how to begin creating a song from my lyrics” is where I can come in and work together to make it happen. I like to work closely with those I work with throughout the entire process to ensure the final product is what everyone wants and can be proud of.
I want others to know I’m a fun-loving, wholehearted musician with a goal to inspire. I believes that music is the pure connection to all of humanity and can reach across generations. My main mission is to connect present and future generations with my music.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I enjoy the process of creating music. Working by myself or with others brings a sense of fulfillment. I also enjoy seeing the seed of an idea become an amazing final project. It’s this feeling of being a part of something special and bigger than myself that is very rewarding.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Everyone can support artists and artists by giving them the value in return. There seems to be an increase in the sentiment that all of this art and music should be free or not having to pay as much for it. This doesn’t help the artists who spent many hours creating this amazing art for people to enjoy.
So please pay the artists and creatives you like, and share their work with others so they can grow their fanbase organically.
