We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sandra Cameron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sandra below.
Alright, Sandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
How I came with the idea of providing hair services was caused by a unique experience. At the time I was a sophomore Iin high school and I had gotten on punishment from my mother. As a result my mom refused to pay for my hair, lashes, etc. In result I had to learn how to do them on my self. I was 16 at the time. It was summer so I decided I wanted to go for braids, so I went and got some braiding hair from the beauty supply and watch tutorials for days. After I did my own hair I had gotten many complements. In result I just started providing low cost services. Eventually I had a successful brand going.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name Is Sandra but I go by Sandy ;) I’m from Indianapolis and I started my hair business while I was in Highschool I was sixteen with little to no experience only ever practice on myself until my complements shortly became my now loyal clients. I started off providing braiding services which would take a very long time. So I then pivoted to coloring wigs which was the newest popular trend around 2019-2020. I was new to the hair seen but I felt like it was my calling so It was something that came natural. What sealed the deal with doing hair for me was seeing how happy my clients were and how I was able to enhance their beauty. Going on year six with my business and this is something I am so proud of starting my business during COVID and having it still being successful also being blessed with such amazing clients .I absolutely love what I do.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first entered the hairstyling industry I was just learning what fits me and Id like to say I learned that very quickly. My first braiding style I did It took me twelve hours and I made twenty five dollars. One word. PIVOT.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Coming to college I learned to adapt to time management. I remembering getting up at six in the morning to have my first client so that I could make it to class at nine am.
