Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Caitlin Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Caitlin , appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Yes, there was a defining moment in my career—and it started in a doctor’s office, not as a practitioner, but as a patient.
I was in my early 20s, newly diagnosed with PCOS, and sitting across from an OB/GYN who looked me in the eye and told me I may never have children. It was a moment that shattered me—but also one that lit a fire.
At the time, I was already a registered dietitian. But that appointment changed the trajectory of my career. I wasn’t content with the standard “just go on birth control” advice. I wanted to understand why my body was struggling and what I could do to support it—not suppress it.
So I dug deep into functional nutrition, hormone physiology, metabolism, and fertility science. I applied what I was learning to my own life. And step by step, cycle by cycle, I proved that doctor wrong—not once, but three times. I conceived and gave birth to three healthy babies naturally, despite PCOS.
That experience reshaped everything about my work. I didn’t want to just be a dietitian anymore—I wanted to walk alongside women who were where I had been. Discouraged. Confused. Misunderstood. I wanted to create evidence-based tools and hope-filled guidance for women with PCOS who were trying to reclaim their health, hormones, and fertility.
Today, I run a thriving practice and app, have supported thousands of women, and am writing a book. But it all goes back to that one defining moment—when someone told me I couldn’t, and I decided to find a way anyway.
Lesson learned: Sometimes the most painful moments hold the greatest purpose. And when we combine lived experience with professional expertise, it becomes a powerful force for helping others.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hi! I’m Caitlin Johnson, a registered dietitian, functional nutritionist, and founder of the PCOS Fertility Nutrition brand. But more than that—I’m a woman who’s walked the same path as many of the women I now serve. I was diagnosed with PCOS in my early 20s and told I may never be able to have children. That moment completely shifted the direction of my personal life and my professional career.
I refused to accept “just take the pill” as the only option. I leaned into my clinical training and expanded it—studying functional medicine, hormone health, fertility science, and the root causes of PCOS. Over time, I developed an integrative method to help support ovulation, improve metabolic function, and reduce symptoms—without extremes or shame.
Today, I run a virtual practice that helps women with PCOS understand their bodies, reclaim their cycles, and grow their families naturally. I offer 1:1 support, a PCOS Hormone Academy (available inside The PCOS App), targeted supplements under the brand PCOS Formularies, and a podcast (Food Freedom Fertility) dedicated to hormone health and functional nutrition. My latest project is a book that empowers women with PCOS to understand how their bodies work—and how to support them back to health and fertility.
What sets my work apart is that it’s rooted in both clinical expertise and lived experience. I’ve helped thousands of women, but I’ve also been the woman crying in the bathroom after another negative pregnancy test. I know the emotional toll, the information overwhelm, and the frustration of feeling dismissed by providers. That’s why my approach is equal parts science and compassion.
I’m most proud of the lives I’ve helped change—not just in helping women conceive, but in helping them feel seen and in control of their health for the first time. For many, it’s not just about fertility—it’s about healing their relationship with food, with their bodies, and with hope.
If you’re struggling with PCOS, fertility, or hormone imbalance, I want you to know: there is a way forward. And you don’t have to walk it alone. My work exists to give you the roadmap I wish I had, and to empower you to feel strong, confident, and connected to your body again.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in business is that success comes from listening—really listening—to your customers. When I first started my practice, my mission was clear: I wanted to help women with PCOS who were struggling to get pregnant, just like I had. That was the problem I had personally walked through, and I knew I could guide others through it too.
But as my audience began to grow, especially on Instagram, I started getting messages from women with PCOS who weren’t trying to conceive. They were looking for support with their symptoms, with weight management, with energy and cycle regulation—but not necessarily fertility. It was a lightbulb moment.
Instead of assuming that my path was everyone else’s, I leaned in and listened. That’s when I created the PCOS Hormone Academy—a resource designed specifically for women with PCOS who weren’t focused on fertility, but still needed science-backed, practical support. That shift was a game-changer in my business.
Here’s the thing: You can start with a great idea, but if you’re not doing the ongoing “market research” of simply listening to your community and understanding the real problems they’re asking you to solve, it’s going to be hard to grow. It’s not about creating something you think is cool—it’s about creating something they truly need.
Listening to my audience—shaping offers around their feedback, their stage of life, and their goals—is what has allowed my brand to grow with integrity and impact. It’s a lesson I come back to often: the customer is the roadmap, not the afterthought.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes—pivoting has been a defining part of my journey, both personally and professionally.
For years, I ran a successful online course helping women with PCOS get pregnant. It was in-depth, evidence-based, and full of the tools I wish I had when I was trying to conceive. And for a long time, it worked. But over time, I started to notice a shift: people were burned out on long, expensive courses. They wanted support, but in a more flexible, less overwhelming way.
I had a choice—cling to what had worked in the past, or evolve. I chose to pivot.
That’s when I launched The PCOS App—a more affordable, accessible option that offers recipes, expert-led education, and a supportive community all in one place. It’s everything women loved about the course, just more digestible and customizable to their own pace.
Then I started hearing something else: “Caitlin, I love your supplement recommendations… but I want something from you. Something I trust.” So I created PCOS Formularies, my own line of targeted, functional supplements designed with clinical precision and patient experience in mind.
Now, I’m writing a book—because some women don’t want a program or an app; they want something they can hold in their hands, highlight, return to over and over again. That pivot is deeply meaningful to me, because it allows me to put everything I’ve learned into a resource that can live beyond a login or a product cycle.
The biggest takeaway? You have to meet people where they are. Pivoting isn’t about abandoning your mission—it’s about delivering it in the format that serves people best right now.
