We were lucky to catch up with Sean LA’MONT recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish I would have pursued my dream sooner. I spent my entire life working for somebody else’s company. That is how I was raised to take care of myself, get a job and work hard. I never believed in my gift as an artist. I considered my art as a side hustle a way to generate another source of income. I decided to pursue my dream before it was too late, instead of would of, could of….
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In high school I believed I was a fashion designer. My best friend asked me to draw a portrait of her favorite artist, Prince. I told my bestie I don’t draw people, I design clothes. My best friend say try. And the rest is history. He knew I was a portrait Artist before I did. I began my life as an artist. I specialize LGBTQ+ Art because of the lack of LGBTQ+ Art in most major museums and art galleries. My art has brought my fans to tears when they discover art that reflects how they live and love.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To grow my creative brand and pursue my literary career. I feel it is time to transform my books into films
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Artistic grants and programs did not exist when i started my art career. Or I was not aware of them.
