We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tracey Roberts. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tracey below.
Tracey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I have spent the last few years building my business just to survive financially. Coming out of an abusive marriage, with 4 children that I was determined to continue homeschooling, everything was focused on just getting through. And we did, and as we’re coming up over the crest of this mountain we’ve climbed, there’s this whole new vista for us to see. I had thought of my legacy in terms of my children – what would they remember about their mom, and what her life represented. And from where we were at the time, I thought that legacy would look like, “Mom was a fighter, she didn’t give up, she pulled us through.” But now, from where we stand today, I know absolutely that I want this legacy to be about so much more, about finding and allowing the abundance that allows us to give to others, to live a life of philanthropy and generosity, and empathy with action. I don’t just want my children to know that they themselves can get through difficult times and circumstances, but that they can be, and are, people who stand up and help others do the same.
Tracey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Tracey Hamilton Roberts, and I am the founder of Abundance Financial and Tax Services. We are a full-service tax and accounting firm, operating remotely and serving clients in all fifty states. We love to work with business owners and entrepreneurs who are ready to scale up their businesses and utilize strategy to maximize profits while minimizing tax liabilities. Our primary goal is to take the stress of the business financials and compliance off your plate, so you can free up your time and mental bandwidth to grow and scale your business, and do the work that lights you up!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The biggest pivot, to date, in my life is when I realized that my 20-year-marriage and life as an off-grid homeschool mom had ended. I knew that I had to make some hard decisions that would enable me to not only move myself and my children out of our off-grid homestead and into one of the most difficult housing markets and economies of my lifetime, but still allow me to be home and present with them, and continue homeschooling. There were so many times that it seemed absolutely impossibly, but I had decided that there was no alternative, so a way had to be found. I started my tax and accounting business from the off-grid cabin, working from the laundry room, with a satellite internet service. It took two years to build up my business and my courage to move out, but when I did, everything began to open up for us. It’s still a nonstop growth cycle, but the benefits of living a peaceful, safe life, and watching my children grow and flourish, is worth every moment!
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Somewhere in the first year of my business, I began watching different YouTube channels for encouragement and business ideas. I stumbled across Codie Sanchez, who blew my mind with both her original and spot-on assessments of the state of our country and economy, and her quintessential millennial style of dress and speaking, LOL. She very much opened my mind to the knowledge and execution on action that was going on in her generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders. She led me to Alex and Leila Hormozi, who, again, blew my mind with their brash talks, unconventional (by my Gen-X ideas) presentations, absolute genius strategies and unparalleled work ethic. And then, having opened up my mind enough to realize how priceless this new generation of business leaders was, I came across Wes Bergmann and The Blox. From his Alpha Blox and Beta Blox educational and incubator programs, to The Blox entrepreneurship realty show, to the unbelievable depth and breadth of talent and knowledge in his mentor group, I was completely entranced by his approach to the Lean Startup and a scientific method of scaling a business, and the network and peer support his organization brought to the table. My experience with these business leaders and educators has had everything to do with my success, and I cannot recommend them highly enough.
