Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to James Norton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
James, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear a story from back when you were an intern or apprentice. What’s a memorable story you can share with us?
We’re on a small island with a small labor pool.. Our team is comprised of seasoned coffee vets and a fair amount of teens. One of the most rewarding aspects in this journey has been watching these young people grow in skills and confidence. They support one another and take ownership of the business at a high level. I’m most happy when coaching/encouraging others and extremely so observing them take flight.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
It was kind of a universal fluke. I wasn’t looking to purchase a coffee shop/roasting facility but that happened and it’s one of the best and hardest things I’ve ever been involved with and I love it!
This is about challenging myself beyond the logic/practical lens. That’s what forces the deep tissue growth.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Personal authority is completely different to external authority.
The journey of cultivating and developing ideas into actual things is all about one’s personal authority. We must give ourselves ultimate deciding power over what we’re going to create. Inspiration is not a train one waits at the station for. It’s a force inside us that simply needs loving awakening

Can you open up about a time when you had a really close call with the business?
Too many to list but we always find a way through and that’s centered in faith in the mission, the team, and oneself
