We were lucky to catch up with Frances Dilorinzo recently and have shared our conversation below.
Frances, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
The kindest and most unexpected surprise in my career was to find out that Warren Buffett, the richest investor in the world, was a fan of mine from comedy clips I posted online. My viral comedy bit, “Homemade Implants” somehow landed in his inbox and without my knowing, he followed me online for years.
One day, I received a call from his daughter to perform for Girls, Inc. a non-profit organization in Omaha, NE. When Warren heard I was booked as the entertainer, he reached out and asked if I would like to have dinner the night before. I was stunned and dinner, included a flight on a private jet to Omaha. Immediately, I loved the way this man thought. We hit it off instantly and dinner was filled with non-stop laughs. It was as if we were reunited long lost friends and that night turned into an incredible ten-year friendship filled with one surprise after another.
Warren included me in many events that I would never have been a part of. I partied with billionaires and rubbed elbows with powerful people. Warren even invited me on a birthday vacation with his closest friends to celebrate his 85 birthday. We traveled by train from Vancouver to Calgary, Canada. It was the most incredible experience of my life. I grew to love him, his family, and his friends because the Oracle of Omaha had an incredible ability to circle himself with good people. He could pick good people, just like he could pick good stocks, and I was honored to be one of them.
In addition to being insanely rich, Warren was insanely funny and that was our bond. Sometimes he would one-up me with his comedic commentary, and I had to jokingly tell him to back down because he was the king of rich, and I was the queen of funny.
As creatives, the internet has a limitless ablity to connect us to almost anyone. You never know who is watching and appreciating what you do, so keep doing it…and the let the surprises fall into place.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
In a nutshell; I am a mom, a comedian, a business owner, and I have slightly elevated glucose levels.
Makeing people laugh is my purpose and my passion. I discovered this accidentally in college when I took the manditory speech class and was encouraged to infuse humor in our speeches. I took a chance and surprisingly succeeded. Because of it, I was recruited to the speech team and became the first person to ever receivd the California Gold Medal for performance in Speeech to Entertain, two years in a row. From the moment, my career in comedy has never stopped.
Once I became a mom, motherhood took the front seat in my life, but comedy called out, “shotgun”. I built my career around my children and managed to serve both of my loves. Now my children are young adults and my comedy focus is showing people how laughter aids you through the ups and downs in life. Fortuately, comedy served me well finacially and I was able to navigate all the twists and turns along the way.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Joy!
If you feel joy in your art, then you are in the right place. If you notice that your art brings joy to others, then you’ve made the right choice and there is no where else you should be.
Often, creatives can question themselves. This is natural, but if you get a magical feeling through your work, you have stumbled onto your purpose. Together joy, purpose, and creativity is an incredible combination. Your art and passion must also feel natural to you. That is very important. Do not force something that feels unnatural. For example, I love music and singing, but I can’t carry a tune, so I wisely decided to let Taylor Swift have that dream. If you are trying to fit into somethine that feels strained and uncomfortable, then you are probably going down the wrong road.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I began my stand-up comedy career as a single woman right after college. For my whole life, I was determined not to be one of thoes people who didn’t use their degree, but that is exactly what happened. Stand-up comedy called me by name and I pivoted away from advertising. I considered selling my degree on Craigslist, but decide to keep it as a placemat instead.
I eventually married and had children. I loved performing, but didn’t want to be away from my children, so I created my own agency. I saw an opportunity to bring professional comedy to private country clubs, associations, and so on. I opened Comedy Entertainment, and built a business that provided performance opportunities for myself and fellow comics locally and take a break from the road.
Today, Comedy Entertainment, is Orange County’s premiere agency for live stand-up entertainment and more.
