We were lucky to catch up with Mon’Chelle Taylor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mon’Chelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I decided to write this book from an accountant perspective. In order to give anyone in the trucking industry, an in-depth look at how understanding accounts receivable can be beneficial to their business. I currently own a tax business, Taylor Made Tax Services, and we have been in business for 13 years. And during this time I’ve worked with countless carriers (independent truckers). I consistently find myself explaining the ends and out of basic financial matters. I lecture at several financial seminars for small business owners during the year and over 50% of my clientele works in the trucking industry. As I surveyed the information that they request for me on a daily basis. I realized, that most people in the trucking industry, don’t understand the basic fundamentals of receiving cash. So I thought it would be beneficial to service an audience who would like to understand accounts receivable in their particular industry, a little bit better. As an accountant, I’ve come to realize that many don’t necessarily understand what we do for a living, but they do understand that they need us. So I decided to create an interactive e-book to help people understand accounting in the layman everyday terms. I want to give the everyday trucker easy access to understanding, simple accounting terms in whole. In particular account receivable, which I just happen to be very knowledgeable in. Being that I’ve been an accountant for over 24 years. My goal is to bridge the gap between the truck driver and the vast rate of knowledge available in accounts receivable. Then break that information down, so that they will be more knowledgeable about how to retain their money and earnings. I plan to make accounting more understandable, and affordable to learn at the same time.

Mon’Chelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve been an accountant for 24 years. I am a widow and a lupus survivor, with two small children. I own two businesses, Taylor Made Tax Services and Taylor Made Freight Dispatchers. I recently wrote a book called, “It’s Getting Sticky. A Trucker’s Interactive Guide to Accounts Receivable!”
I come from a long family line of entrepreneurs. Early on my family taught me about working for yourself. I initially got started in accounting at 16 years old, by working for family’s multiple chains of businesses. I initially went in as entry-level, and then became the manager, which helped me hone my skills of accounting and financial management. Shortly there after, I went to school for mass communications and accounting at Southern University and LSU.
I host financial seminars for small business owners throughout the year. I’m also financial coach/advisor for many business owners. I’m very personable, and I understand how to speak to people in a language that they understand. I have a deep desire to convey financial literacy to people who have been overlooked, overwhelmed, and underestimated because of their current financial statuses. Complete financial literacy gives you power and allows you to have more control over your life.
Being diagnosed with lupus four years ago, and never having a serious illness prior to that altered my entire life completely. It brought many things into perspective and made me take a step back from the hustle and bustle of life and realize what is most important. My impact on people, if even just for a moment, means the world to me. And when you give someone the power of understanding and the courage to take control over their life and finances, you leave a mark on their path that they will always remember. After my lupus diagnosis… I have decided that there is absolutely nothing that will stand in the way of me, living my life to the fullest and educating many who do not have available resources in business financial management and overall financial understanding. That’s my life worth and that’s my overall goal. And if I can make my grandmother and my children, proud in the process, I’ll be more than satisfied.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe Wood helped my reputation in this market is my transparency and truthfulness. As a minority working in this industry, I’ve definitely encountered my own set of struggles. They call me, “Money!” Somewhat a play on words for my name, Mon’Chelle. People know that when we work together, I’mma make them some money or I’m a teach them how to make some money. I speak two people about money in a way that they understand and they can take that knowledge home with them. I don’t over explain or give crazy example examples. I tell you what you need to know and what you need to do next to make and keep your money. I am very proud to say every day that I wake up people trust me with making their money grow. That’s a very good feeling..

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2024, I almost died three times because of my diagnosis. I was newly diagnosed and didn’t quite understand the flare process within 2024. I was hospitalized three separate times the minimum of a week each time I had seven blood transfusions and multiple iron transfusions at one point I even passed out in front of my children. I have been working so hard as an accountant in my side businesses not realizing that I was working between 16 and 18 hours a day. Also not taking into consideration what stress does to your body when you have lupus and how it can cause a serious flareup. I had to immediately stop working and get on disability in order to put myself back in a healthy state so take all my responsibilities and take care of my children. If it wasn’t for them being my motivation I would have given up during the struggle.
