Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Reagan Rieland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Reagan, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I was a chef as my former career and had a very bad fall in the kitchen. I was in pain for a bout a year and was seeing a chiropractor at least once a week. He finally said I am not helping you and I think you should go see a Rolfer. I found my now mentor and started to see him once a week for 4 treatments and was feeling some much better! I then realized if I wanted a healthy life style I might have to change careers. On the fourth or fifth session I asked Bill my mentor if he thought I could do this? He looked at me and said I have been waiting for you to ask! He knew from the first session my hands were Rolfers hands and not chef hands. From there he has all the applications and a letter of recommendation for me, once I was accepted it was 3 months of studying and I was off to Boulder to study. I am now the owner of the Rolfing Center and have a thriving practice.

Reagan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Rolfing helped me so much I really wanted to help others feel better and feel better in their bodies. It’s a body and mind practice, we teach our clients how to help heal themselves as well so they dont have to depend on us to feel or heal. I see many clients that have accidents, car and other, I help get them back to just about where they were before what happened to them. We can also help with sports performance, dancing, and daily life.

Let’s talk M&A – we’d love to hear your about your experience with buying businesses.
I bought my practice from my mentor when I had two years under my belt, it was a bit sooner than I was thinking and expecting. It was the ultimate dram though and I had to do it. My mentor had a very thriving practice and office. He was moving a some what retiring so he offered it to me. I was shocked he thought I was ready to take over and run my own practice, and I knew it was the right thing and the thing I wanted. My process was very pleasant and I still can’t believe the practice is mine.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I feel part of my success is due to the fact I truely listen to clients and not just about their bodies, about what is going on in their lives. I think most people just need an ear to help process things.
