Jake, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?

I worked for one of the world’s largest real estate data companies as an Architectural Photographer. What Corporate America gets wrong, of course, is the human element. In this position, my colleagues and I worked towards a metric that was, for all intents and purposes, impossible to achieve with any real quality. I love to work hard and do what it takes to “get the shot.” This is what professional photography is all about, but once something turns into a spreadsheet, the work suffers, and you quickly begin to tick boxes to hit your number.

Jake, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Jake Miller, and I own and operate my own photography business, Seven Maples Photography. We Primarily specialize in construction, architecture, and aerial photography. For our clients, we provide project update photos and videos. As well as final images for their company’s portfolios. One aspect that sets us apart is that we are a small yet capable operation. I want my clients to have a bespoke experience when they work with me, discussing their creative vision and how to plan and execute to achieve the best images.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

What drives me is the creative process. I enjoy collaborating with clients, trusting my intuition, and problem-solving to bring their visions to life.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

I worked in airplane manufacturing for ten years. It was a good job, but I knew I wanted to do something else with my life and be my own boss. When I started my photography business, I knew nothing about being a working photographer. However, with time and persistence, I have learned and continue to learn, exerting myself in the marketplace.
