We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donna Morris a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Donna, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
I can still picture the tall gates of Ardenne High and the upstairs buildings that held so much promise, but also, for me, so much fear.
Back then, I was the student who sat quietly in class. Not because I didn’t understand the lesson, but because fear had its grip on me. I was afraid of speaking up, afraid of getting it wrong, afraid of standing out. I never raised my hand. I never volunteered. I lived in the shadows of my own potential, shrinking behind silence.
I remember one particular literature class. The teacher asked a question I knew the answer to. It was one of the few times I was absolutely sure. But still, I didn’t speak. I looked down, silently praying the teacher wouldn’t call on me. My heart pounded, my palms were sweaty. I watched as someone else, less certain than I was—gave an answer. And I sat there, paralyzed by fear.
It wasn’t that I didn’t have something to say, it was that I struggled with self-doubt and I didn’t believe my voice mattered.
But over time, something began to shift. A few kind teachers saw more in me than I saw in myself. One in particular Ms. Francis, pulled me aside after class and said,
“Donna, you’re bright. You can do this. Don’t let fear silence you.”
That seed stuck with me.
Though I didn’t transform overnight, that lesson became one of the most important of my school journey:
Fear grows in silence. But courage grows the moment you choose to speak, even with a trembling voice.
Looking back, my school days taught me more than academics. It was that time in my life when I saw that had to confront fear of being seen and heard. I didn’t even realize then that the timid girl who struggled to speak in class would one day become an author, minister, international speaker, mentor and coach.
“This is the Lord’s doing it is marvellous in our eyes
” Psalms 118:23
Reflecting on those days brings back many memories, the silence, the fear, and eventually, a whisper of courage that would one day become a shout of victory.
God is truly awesome.
He is able through his Word to bring transformation in any one’s life.
That’s why I’m so passionate about helping others shift their mindsets and walk boldly into God’s purpose.
Because I’ve lived it.
I was that girl.
Now, I help others rise from limitations in the mind.
Donna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Donna Morris, Bestselling author, mindset coach, minister, and international speaker. I help women of faith in business overcome mindset blocks and sales insecurities, so they can sell with confidence and increase their income. But the journey to becoming who I am today didn’t start with clarity, it started in a place of fear and limitation.
For years, I struggled silently with an impoverished mindset, self-doubt, and the fear of stepping out. Even though I was working, I constantly declared that there was no money. I lived in a one-room dwelling for over 20 years, feeling stuck, confused, and fearful, unknowingly trapped by my own thoughts. I looked confident on the outside, but inside, I was wrestling with self-doubt and fear of stepping out of the comfort zone. I didn’t believe my voice mattered.
Then came a pivotal moment in 2017. God spoke to my heart through a sermon message, it was clear: “It’s time to move. It’s time to shift.” That word pierced through years of fear and limitation. It was the beginning of a new chapter of victory one where I chose to believe what the word of God said about me over the lies I had lived with for so long. I break free in faith and move to make enquiries about home improvement loans and I leearnt that I was more than qualified. Do you know that limitations in the mind can bar you from a great future? I am a testimony of moving in bold faith and my mind and life has expanded. Since then, I’ve been on a mission working on myself, to help others break free from the same chains of limited beliefs that once held me back. The truth is, it is possible to experience a New Mindset.
I began doing the inner work:
Investing in my mind, making bold moves taking courses become a certified marriage mentor , writing my bestselling book Moved to a New Mindset: Free from Limitations, Rejections and Fears. I come to understand that purpose never has an expiry date, but i get on going. launched my mindset coaching practice to empower women of faith, especially those in business who, like I once did, struggle to show up, speak up, and sell confidently.
My coaching is deeply personal. I offer 1-on-1 sessions that help women dismantle limiting beliefs, gain spiritual clarity, and step into bold, purpose-driven action. I provide mindset tools rooted in both Biblical truth and practical strategy. I guide women in shifting from fear to faith, from hesitation to action, and from self-doubt to God-confidence.
What sets my work apart is that I coach from lived experience, from transformation. I’ve walked the path of breaking free from mental strongholds, and now I help others rise. Whether I’m coaching a woman through pricing her services, rewriting her money story, or encouraging her to speak boldly in her business, I bring both faith and strategy to the table.
I am most proud of the internal transformation I’ve experienced—because the real win is not just in the accolades, it’s in the Lord’s doing. He gave me a mindshift that allowed me to see myself through His eyes. Today, I am an international speaker, mindset coach, and mentor to others. And with each session, message, and declaration, I celebrate God’s faithfulness and the victory I now walk in.
Yes I have experience many challenges on my journey.
Obstacles in the mind, criticism, and persons leaving my life because of this new mindset journey. Here is my bold victory Declaration as I stay focused on God:
☆I have been moved to a new mindset.
☆I am no longer bound by fear, rejection, or limitation.
☆I am a bold, faith-filled woman of purpose.
☆I rise, I speak, I win, because God is with me.
This is my victory. This is my time. I continually embrace the scripture in 1 Corinthians 15:57 and I quote:
Thanks be to God who has given me the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
To God be all the glory!
If you’re a woman of faith ready to shift your mindset, increase your sales confidence, and embrace your God-given assignment—I am here to help you on that journey .
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What helped me build my reputation within my market was consistency, authenticity, and transformation. I didn’t just talk about mindset shifts, I lived it. I shared openly about my struggles with fear, rejection, and scarcity thinking, and how God led me into a place of boldness, purpose, and victory. That transparency connected with women who were silently battling the same mental barriers. They saw that if I could rise, so could they.
I consistently speak victory declarations in my greetings , and maintain a positive enthusiasm
I also built trust by showing up consistently, whether it was through speaking engagements, coaching sessions, book signings, or encouraging content online. I invested in my own growth, hired coaches, and refined my message so I could serve others with excellence. What truly sets me apart is the spiritual foundation I bring to mindset coaching—I don’t just help women overcome blocks, I help them align with God’s purpose. And when people see transformation in your own life, they believe you can guide them to theirs.
Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I wasn’t at a book signing. No stage. No mic. Just me at the pharmacy, running errands with a copy of Moved to a New Mindset tucked in my bag. I always carry books with me everywhere .So, while I was
chatting with the cashier, I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me: “Tell her about the book.”
Fear whispered:
“This is not the right time. You’re just a customer. What if she thinks you’re pushy?”
But then I remembered the mind storm I had already come through, the years I let fear silence me, the times I hid my story because I didn’t think it was polished enough or powerful enough.
I remembered my vow to never let hesitation hold me hostage again.
So I took a deep breath, pulled out the book, and said,
“I wrote this. It’s about breaking free from fear and stepping into purpose. Can I tell you about it?”
She lit up. Her eyes softened. She bought a copy right there at the counter.
Then she called over a co-workerand she bought one too.
And I did what I was called to do: I prayed over them. Right there. In the middle of a normal day, surrounded by customers and shelves.
There was no flyer. No poster.
Just God showing up in an ordinary moment… and using it to deliver victory.
used to believe victory looked like packed rooms, perfect scripts, and polished images.
But that day reminded me:
Victory doesn’t wait for the perfect moment. It shows up when you do.
That simple act of obedience pierced through years of rejection I had once wrestled with.
In that moment, I realized:
“This book isn’t just a product, it’s a weapon. It’s a healing balm. It’s a divine assignment.”
I left the pharmacy feeling deeply impacted by that moment.
Not because of a sale
But because I had obeyed, and God had moved.
There was a time I wouldn’t have spoken up. I would have walked out with groceries and missed the moment.
But God has been transforming my mind, helping me break out of that storm of self-doubt, timidity, and fear of man.
I now speak boldly, in stores, in conversations, in taxis, in coaching, and on platforms because I’ve come to understand:
You don’t have to be perfect to experience God’s power.
You just need to be present… and obedient.
To someone reading this:
You’re waiting for a big opportunity, but God may be nudging you in small spaces, to speak, share, pray, or show up with what’s in your hand.
Don’t overlook the counter moments.
Don’t downplay the small beginnings.
“Despise not the day of small things…” Zechariah 4:10
