Angelica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?

My entire life I have always enjoyed making crafts and putting things together. Being heavily involved in different organizations and my community allowed me to explore my talents and enhance my creativity. My name derived from my talents and creativity. Gifted-I was always told that I am gifted, CreationZ- I enjoy making making crafts and different creations, Jelly- Is my childhood nickname.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Angelica Jean and I am the owner of Gifted CreationZ by Jelly. I started Gifted CreationZ by Jelly in Fall of 2019. A friend and I were planning a family member’s baby shower and we had so many ideas in mind. The decorations were well executed, but I had a difficult time deciding what my gift would be. I had several ideas in mind so I decided to combine all of my ideas into one and create a gift basket. I thoroughly enjoyed making the gift basket and was thrilled to know that she loved it. I received several compliments for this gift basket and was encouraged to continue making them. My family and friends then encourage me to begin a small business. I expanded my basket making skills into other crafts and creations and established my business. Because of the support of family and friends, my business is flourishing and I can’t wait to take it to the next level.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

I initially looked into obtaining a loan to start my business. Instead I decided to set aside money and use those funds to put together the initial capital. It wasn’t easy but I decided that this would be a great investment in myself.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I have several social media platforms and I utilized them to promote my business. I created an Instagram and Facebook page and continued to share my creations. I also sent sent my pages to friends, families, and colleagues to promote as well. In addition, I joined small business pages in my area who also helped expose my business and obtain followers. I continued to follow other business and individuals. I created business cards which included my social media platforms. The most important advice I would provide to those starting to build the social media presence would be to PROMOTE. You have to be willing to promote yourself even if others aren’t. The best investment you can invest in is yourself.
