SubscribeAlright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Donlynette Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Donlynette, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
In my hometown my husband and I were well known by our family and friends as high school sweethearts. As adults we had to fight for what we felt was truly meant to be. What you see now is the outcome of hope, faith, lots of sacrifice, and most of all LOVE. In our losing season WE lost a lot by choosing each other. We were often left questioning, is LOVE worth all of this? Falling in love is easy but staying in love through the trials and tribulations is when LOVE truly wins. We opened our hearts and allowed God to show us that with him, TRUE LOVE is possible. Allowing God to Renew our hearts with Hope and Faith is when we began walking into our winning season.

Donlynette, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always had a passion for coming up with cute sayings to put on shirts. I would just order them from other small businesses. In the year 2021, my family and I were preparing for a trip. Of course we had to have shirts for that trip! My cousins reached out for my help with those shirts. At that time I purchased a cricut . After we made those shirts, I did not touch my cricut for months. I have a very large family and I have always been known as the “sensitive cousin”. Growing up I was offended by that nickname! I did not want to be called sensitive just because I cared. There are a lot of women in my family, with that being said it’s difficult to keep all of these personalities on the same page. A lot of my cousins and friends would come to me because they felt I was more mindful of delivery. They knew that I would remain open minded and they would not feel judged. I was listening to a sermon by SJR and she mentioned that its ok to be sensitive its means you are using your senses, God gave you senses so that you can be aware of your choices.
I love hashtags, for my 42nd birthday I came up with the hashtag 42&renewed. I also decided that I wanted to get my passport. When I went to order my birth certificate, I was reminded by the fact that I was embarrassed by my name Donlynette Love. I decided to ask my mom why she gave me the name Donlynette Love. She couldn’t decide on a name but knew she wanted it to include my dads name, Donald. She reached out to my Aunt Linda, who wanted her first daughter’s middle name to be Love. My mom said I like that she does look like Love, that’s when they decided on Donlynette Love. There was another sermon by SJR that spoke on the power of your name. I began to pray and accept that this was something I should embrace. Maybe that’s why I am so sensitive, maybe that’s why I am such an advocate for love, it is my name, it is who I am. When I began to contemplate business names, I reached out to the people closest to me for their ideas and thoughts. Between conversations with my cousin and my best friend we came up with RenewedByLove. My relationship with my husband is what changed me, I, no WE were RenewedByLove. So much of “life” happened. I had 2 major surgeries in 3 months. Everything was coming full circle. Love is who I am, it changed me, and it renewed US. As I went to create my business, I realized I couldn’t because I never changed my social security number to my married name. When the new documents came to me, I realized I’m now Love Johnson! As a business, We want to be known as more than a shirt company. We want to have open forums to talk about relationships, help others understand the struggles of surviving the pain of divorce and deciding to choose love again. I want to write a book, do conferences I have so many ideas! I think that what makes us stand out is the way I openly communicate with my customers and provide a quality of work and designs that touches your heart. Being that I’ve order many shirts from other companies, I know what it’s like to receive a bad product and feel like they didn’t even care that they gave me this product. I will always deliver a product with love.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me it’s my passion to deliver a product that leaves a lasting impression on my customers. I may be in an over saturated market having a clothing line, but once we begin to tackle our other visions, it will be our mission to show the world that with love anything is possible.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for me has been friends, family and word of mouth. We thrive on customer service and when customers get great service, they will tell someone that will tell someone else. I’m still learning social media and finding the time to load content.
