Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jake Bullock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jake, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I met one of my friends at the ice rink (we played hockey together). He owned a tennis academy for a couple of years and asked if I could redo his website and run some ads for him. The rest is history.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name’s Jake, and I’ve been deep in SEO and digital marketing for about five years. I didn’t plan to get into this industry; it just happened. I started with an affiliate marketing company, and they told me about SEO. I got hooked on figuring out how Google works. Once I saw the results, I couldn’t stop.
I eventually launched my own agency, First Page Prodigy, and since then, I’ve worked with all kinds of businesses, from one-person startups to brands with whole marketing teams. My favorite part is always the same: seeing real people and companies get actual results from strategies we implement. It’s never about getting clicks or rankings for me; I want long-term growth that makes a real difference for my clients.
I’m also a big believer in making digital marketing accessible. That’s one reason I started The Yoga Funk as a creative outlet and a way to help wellness brands reach more people without spending a fortune on ads.
If you’re curious about what makes me different, I’d say it’s a mix of hands-on experience, curiosity, and genuine care for the businesses I work with. I’m proudest when clients tell me I’ve helped them stress less about their online marketing and get back to focusing on what they love.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first got into online marketing (before I even started First Page Prodigy), I noticed a lot of questionable tactics people used to get to the top of Google. I’ll admit it: I tried stuff like spamming, keyword stuffing, and basically just making content for Google, not real people. And for a while, it worked. But every time Google rolled out a new update, my rankings would tank. That’s when I realized I needed to change my approach. I started focusing on what works long-term: following Google’s guidelines and creating real value. That shift is what laid the foundation for my business today.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Reaching out directly has always been my go-to. Honestly, doing interviews like this helps too. Most of the time, I work with mom-and-pop businesses, I’ll email them or even pick up the phone and call. Sometimes I’ll offer to review their website for free, or invite them to grab a coffee and discuss what they need. It’s simple, but building real connections works best for me.
