We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Morgan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.
Anna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the early days of establishing your own firm. What can you share?
Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
I grew up in Moscow, Russia, in an environment where people didn’t believe they had the choice to pursue the path they wanted. I was raised to believe that stability was the key to a good life. During my school years, I enjoyed studying foreign languages and visual arts, but despite my interest in design, I was convinced that if I got a “serious” degree, it would result in a good job at a reliable company. That’s how I ended up with a diploma that reads, “Engineer of Mining and Underground Construction.” But by the end of school, I knew I was never going to work in this field. I didn’t like a single thing about it!
My biggest hobby was photography. I bought my first serious camera in 2006 and started improving my skills. I’ve learned how to use editing programs and finished a basic photography course in Moscow. I enjoy travelling and connecting with people, and have learned how to take beautiful portraits.
I discovered another passion when a family friend began her private psychology practice. 20 years ago, psychology in Russia wasn’t popular at all; people didn’t trust it. There was an overall opinion that if you have problems, it’s better to talk to a friend than a stranger. But I was inspired that someone dared to create such a risky business, and I was curious how psychology could affect my life, so I decided to become the first client. Our sessions were the beginning of my personal development, and they planted the seed in my mind that I didn’t have to go with the flow but could choose the life I wanted.
As I gained increasing satisfaction from photography and psychology, I decided to quit my regular 9-5 job and take a break. I was invited by a family member to visit her in Boston and improve my English at a language school. My 6-month stay in America turned into a permanent move, and I learned how many opportunities exist for people who want to create and develop themselves.
I knew I had to start my career from the beginning, focusing on what I truly wanted to do. I researched educational opportunities and related professions, which led to dating and relationship coaching! I obtained my certification in 2018 and decided to start my own practice. In January of 2020, I opened Best Self Studio, a collaborative space for growth and support.
The main challenge for my business was to survive the pandemic, and unfortunately, I had to move my work mostly online. I miss having my physical space, but some of my local clients still see me in person. We meet at coffee shops or go for a walk, and it creates an even better connection and trust.
It took me several years to see the whole picture. Like bids on a string, I put different skills in my practice. Now I offer a comprehensive approach to dating, including coaching, dating profile photography, dating profile optimization, matchmaking, mock dates, and styling advice.
I genuinely believe that the quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives. That’s why my mission is not only to help people find each other, but also to inspire them to connect on a deeper, non-superficial level.
My philosophy is that if you want to be happy and fulfilled, you need to absolutely love what you’re doing. The amount of work you have to put into a business can’t be compensated only by money. In my experience, purpose, meaning, service, and the growth of others are the best rewards. I like to get up in the morning and think that today I can change somebody’s life by bringing awareness, support, and confidence to their dating journey. We all can change the world by helping one person at a time!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a dating coach and professional matchmaker, and I am deeply invested in helping people find real, meaningful love, because I’ve been on that journey myself. My work is more than just clever openers, what to text back, or what dating strategy to choose. I go deep when I coach.
What makes my coaching different is that it’s actually very personal. I’m in a happy, healthy relationship with my soulmate, Chris, and we’re raising our son, Max, together. I bring my whole heart into this work—my knowledge of psychology, my own growth, and everything I’ve learned from walking this road myself. I would say that coaching isn’t just what I do; it’s who I am.
I grew up in Eastern Europe and moved to the United States at 28—a bold leap that has shaped me in so many ways. I’ve embraced the fast-paced energy of America while cherishing the traditions of Europe.
Since getting certified in 2018, I’ve worked with clients all across the country—some privately, some through corporate partnerships. No matter where they’re from or what their story is, the goal is the same: helping them feel seen, empowered, and ready for love that feels like home.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I started my business, my vision was to connect with people in real life, where you can feel each other’s presence and energy. The 2020 lockdown made me shift my service online. It was a time of uncertainty and fear. Then I had the opportunity to join a matchmaking company and become part of a nationwide team of matchmakers. It was a huge part of my professional development. I was in trenches with my clients, going through rejections, heartbreaks, and healing. I had almost three years of amazing collaboration, friendship, and growth with dedicated and skillful matchmakers and coaches from all over the country.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
My service touches many areas of my client’s life. Most of them initially come for dating coaching and need advice and support in finding love. But we always go beyond that. We work on their image and confidence using photography; relationship coaching helps them to maintain healthy connections at work and home, and my matchmaking network keeps us in touch for years. I also enjoy sharing new insights I’ve gained about love and relationships, and I send clients my blog posts, book recommendations, podcasts, and video suggestions.
