We recently connected with Blake Munn and have shared our conversation below.
Blake, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I’ve thought about this question a lot. Am I truly happy when I’m alone in the studio late at night cranking out arrangements? What about when things don’t go according to plan and I am so frustrated? Sometimes I wonder, “If I had a regular job, I could just clock out, go home, and turn it off until the next day.”
But as a business owner, there’s no off switch and my identity is deeply rooted into every part of my business. That realization was difficult for me to navigate at first, but as my business has grown and myself with it, I’ve come to see it as a gift. It makes the wins so much more meaningful and there’s nothing like watching an idea come to life at an event. The pride I feel is beyond words. And it’s not just my own pride. It’s the pride of my team and my support system because they are the ones that really keep the lights on within myself. They keep me going!
So yes, I am happier as a business owner. I thrive on the creativity and flexibility it brings. My mind is constantly engaged, and I’ve never been more motivated to grow, both personally and professionally. And I love making the world just a little bit brighter, one bloom at a time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Blake! I’m the owner and floral designer of Threefoot Blooms. I started my business in 2022 after moving back to my Mississippi hometown from Atlanta. A childhood friend of mine asked me to do her wedding flowers, knowing my background from working in floral shops during high school and college. That one wedding turned into many more, and with no advertising, just word of mouth, my business grew.
I studied marketing at the University of Mississippi and initially pursued a corporate career. But when COVID hit, my husband and I moved home, and I began balancing my remote corporate job while building my floral business on the side. I’d meet brides on lunch breaks and juggle calls while arranging flowers. It honestly felt like a double life. After a year and a half, I took the leap and went full time with florals. It was scary, but I was already booked into the next year and knew I had to trust the process.
My journey with flowers began the moment I got my driver’s license. My very first job was at a local flower shop, and it didn’t take long to realize that while flowers are beautiful and fun, the behind-the-scenes work is no joke. The planning and ordering process for weddings alone could be a full-time job. Add in daily orders, phone calls, bucket scrubbing, and the chaos of holidays like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, it’s a hustle.
But in that shop, I was given the freedom to explore. My mentors, both remarkable women, allowed me to create and experiment, and showed me what passionate business owners look like. I looked up to them then, and I still do today. That’s where I first understood that running a flower business takes more than creativity. It takes grit and passion. I was intrigued, but I didn’t expect to own my own business. Growing up around a family of successful business owners, entrepreneurship was always in my blood, it just took me a while to realize it for myself.
In college, I took a job at Oxford Floral, and that’s where everything clicked and design started to come more naturally. There, I refined my craft, made unforgettable memories, and found a second family. We powered through 2 am wedding preps, and laughed until we cried. I even met one of my bridesmaids working there. While college gave me plenty of great experiences, Oxford Floral added something special that I will hold close to my heart forever.
Even though I didn’t formally study floral design, it has shaped who I am. And I realized that flowers really have been with me through every season of life.
What I try to share through my work is my love for the art itself.
Every arrangement is a unique piece of art and I try to add a special touch to each one that walks out the door. When you receive something from Threefoot Blooms, you’re not just getting flowers. You’re getting a piece of me. I pride myself on remembering my clients’ favorite flowers, colors, and anniversaries. It’s the little things that make a difference both professionally and personally.
From the very beginning of starting my business, the support from this community has been overwhelmingly incredible. And being a woman owned business, it’s very empowering.
After designing my first wedding, I sat down one night and wrote a list of goals.
I told myself: a year from now, I’ll look back and decide whether this was the right path for me. My goals were simple but ambitious: 1. Build a sustainable and profitable business that I was truly proud of. 2. Build confidence as a business owner and learn how to manage a team. 3. Eventually create a beautiful studio space with a walk-in cooler so I could keep flowers fresher longer. That cooler was a big investment and it felt intimidating at first. I was scared because it meant that this was actually becoming a real thing and would no longer be just a side hustle. And today, I’ve checked off every one of those goals.
Now, I design for weddings, events, everyday occasions, and even funerals. Again, flowers for every season of life. The journey hasn’t always been easy, and I’ve definitely been my own toughest critic. But I’ve also learned to give myself grace and celebrate how far I’ve come.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I’ve often been my own worst enemy when it comes to confidence. Even now, I catch myself overthinking nearly every decision I make in my business. I can let other people’s opinions weigh me down more than I’d like to admit.
Recently, I came across the trending “Let Them Theory” by Mel Robbins. I know it’s been around for a while, but discovering it came at the perfect time. The concept is simple but very impactful. You can’t control what others think of you. People will always have opinions, preferences, and judgments. And if they do…let them. Let them think what they want. But what you can control is how you live your life. When you stay true to yourself, the right people will stick by you. And after I discovered this, my mind gained a little more peace and I realized I didn’t want negativity to take up any more of my time and energy.
The theory really stuck with me and I found myself thinking of it any time a negative though tried to creep in. Over the last year, I’ve worked hard to let go of the things I can’t control and shift my focus on my own path and moving onward.
One moment that has stayed with me was when a regular client came into the studio and said something that changed my entire perspective of myself and my business. I had been feeling discouraged and of course comparing myself to others and questioning whether people liked me if they didn’t choose me as their florist. In a small town, that kind of self-doubt can creep in really fast.
Basically she said, “Stop comparing yourself to others. I see you as a designer. A true floral designer. You can’t compare yourself to anyone else, because your work and your business are entirely your own.”
Her words were a turning point for me and honestly sparked a new outlook that I live by each day. They reminded me that my path is unique, and so is my voice as a creative. That moment gave me the confidence to truly own my work and to continue showing up for myself. Because at the end of the day she (me) deserves grace and love too. She’s doing the very best she can.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being in a small town, I usually know most of my clients and there isn’t a huge market per say. But I still try to build relationships with my clients and really listen to their ideas because I want to deliver exactly what they want, if not more. I like to go above and beyond, because I know little things like that go a long way. I also always try to choose kindness. Because with a small business, every interaction I have with someone counts. And I may be naive in saying this, but I truly believe that kindness is what keeps customers coming back. People just want to be seen and heard, so I make that my mission to create a connection with that client – whether it’s a 10 minute phone order or a bride.
