We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Leeann Golish. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Leeann below.
Leeann, appreciate you joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
The educational system can be a wonderful stepping stone, but I wish that they taught more about how your education and career goals need to align with your vision of life over decades. I can see how this might stray from simple post-graduate education, but counseling services to young adults that show them more options beyond the typical ‘office job’ would be a wonderful way to spur creativity and encourage young adults to shape their lives with their careers in a way that suits their vision of the future.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started as an Industrial Engineer right out of college, and went to work at a Monday through Friday workplace. Not long after, I got married and became interested in photography through that experience. I dove head-first into learning cameras and posing, and photographed three weddings within the first year. The following year, I photographed 28 weddings. Not long after I realized that photography could be a career and I could dictate my future growth. I quit my “day job” with just $500 on the books and never looked back. I realized that I could create my own future, grow my family, and have flexibility like never before if I just put in the hard work to do so.
I started as a wedding photographer, and have grown my business to also include families, newborns, and corporate architectural work as well. In addition, I photograph numerous live events and corporate meetings throughout the year and look forward to growing my business in the coming years.
I work hand-in-hand with my clients to create an experience that is easy-going and organized, and my images are classic and candid. I truly love working with people and meeting new personalities, so my job feels very natural to who I am.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is always to create the family-life that works best for me, my husband, and my four kids. They are the first priority in my life! If I can work hard during my ‘busy season’, that allows me to take time to be with them and include lots of quality time into their young lives.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m currently pivoting in many ways! I’ve added more corporate and architectural work into my offerings, so that I can potentially lighten up my weekends from wedding-work. Although I love weddings, as my kids get older there are more ‘weekend activities’ that start to pop up!
I also work closely with my husband in our real estate portfolio, so we are making some adjustments there that may change our schedule and my photography priorities.
