We recently connected with Ariel Anderson and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I’ve been involved in the artistic world pretty much since birth. As a kid, my parents put me in dance to break me out of my shell and let’s just say it worked. I immediately fell in love with the art and anything remotely involving creativity. Since middle school I knew I wanted to continue exploring my love for the arts and pursue it professionally. In school, nothing I was learning really interested me. I never felt that passion or light the way I did when I was doing anything artistic. Back in 2020 I decided to explore photography and videography and obviously loved it. Just 6 months ago I had interest in making that a source of income so I reached out to Social One and asked if there was a way I could become involved. The rest is history and now Social One has expanded to Charleston and I get to make a living creating and helping businesses here elevate their brand.

Ariel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always been involved in the creative industry. Growing up a competitive dancer I decided to pursue it as an adult. Already being involved in the industry slowly introduced me to other forms of art (photography, fashion, content creation etc.)
About a year ago I moved to Charleston where I knew absolutely nobody and basically had to start my life over. I felt a little out of place and lost because I was having trouble finding my group of fellow creatives. Eventually I decided to take it into my own hands. I reached out to Social One and asked if they were willing and wanting to expand to a new city. I wanted nothing more then to be involved in the artistic industry. Thankfully they let me in with open arms and allowed me to take over and run the business here in Charleston. I’ am so excited to be able to provide stellar content and help business elevate their brand and social media presence. One thing that sets me apart from anyone in the industry I think would be my experience in a variety of different forms of art. This allows me to help a wide range of clientele and create product that will help each client stand out.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I feel like those who aren’t involved in the creative industry underestimate how difficult it actually is. People just think it’s as simple as just taking a picture and you’re done. That’s so far from the truth. It takes trial and error, figuring out lighting, angles, what works for each individual client that you have etc. Not one client requires the same things so figuring out what works for each one is extremely challenging and honestly can get frustrating. This also means that it may take some time for a client to actually see the results they are wanting. With that being said being patient as someone not in the creative world is extremely important and appreciated.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is probably how you leave your audience or client feeling afterwards. Your job is to help them so when the client loves the work you’ve done, you’ve hit the jackpot. There is no better feeling than helping someone.
