Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Julie Hawkes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Julie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I was in tears. Sitting on my stone fireplace ledge crying and shaking. It was Alicia’s seventh birthday party and I couldn’t even participate. A family friend had come over and was handling all the games, the presents, the laughter while I sat and cried.
It all started a couple of weeks before when my 23 year old brother passed away in a boating accident. His wife was three months from delivering their first baby. At the time we were also facing serious financial difficulties. All of it was too much.
So many painful things going wrong all at once was just too much for my heart to handle.
I wondered if God really loved me, why so many bad things were happening all at once. Why didn’t he save my brother? And why did life have to be so hard?
I worried constantly about how we were going to make ends meet and how we were going to provide for our family.
The worry turned into debilitating, and I mean debilitating, crushing anxiety. I couldn’t be left alone. Someone had to be with me to help me take care of our 4 children ages 9, 7, 5 and 2.
I remember one day my mom said to me, “Julie! You have to get better. Your children need you.” I knew she was right.
I wanted to get better. I wanted to take care of my precious children. But I didn’t know how.
I promised myself right then that I would do whatever it took to get better and to be happy.
The doctor diagnosed me with generalized anxiety disorder. He prescribed medicine and within a matter of weeks I started to stabilize. I saw a counselor who offered helpful advice to help me move forward.
Slowly I started feeling better and I was able to resume my mom duties and care for my children and my household. Pete got a good job and our finances stabilized. We were blessed.
But I still struggled emotionally. I still worried all. the. time. I needed to figure something else out. What I was doing wasn’t enough. I began an intensive, 17 year study of anxiety; it’s causes, the solutions, everything.
I learned so much! I tried everything (except smoking weed and quitting sugar). Some stuff worked, some didn’t.
What I found was tools to change my thinking, to change the way I feel about myself, and to get through my day with peace in my heart, and confidence in myself.
The results have been mind-blowing. I am a completely different person. Today I am happy, healthy, and I rarely feel anxiety at all (and I still haven’t quit sugar). I have 3 more kids, and I am a grandma and a business owner.
My gratitude for my transformation is overwhelming. I did not do this alone. Because of the pain I have been in I am PASSIONATE about helping others so they don’t have to suffer like I have. I know what works. I know what doesn’t work.
It is my mission to teach others how to reconnect, love themselves, and stop worrying so they can get unstuck and have healthy relationships, reach their goals, and have peace and joy.

Julie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

She has helped clients in over 5000 private sessions and more than 300 group sessions.
She loves helping people make peace with their past, have more meaningful relationships, and feel confident in the answers they receive and the decisions they make.
Since starting her business in 2016 she has spent thousands of hours in one on one sessions helping people let go of old pain and embrace new thinking patterns and new results. She knows what works and what doesn’t. And she knows how to help you get unstuck.
On a personal note, she was raised in South-East Idaho and has seven children and 2 grandsons, and a granddaughter. She met her husband at the local grocery store and was tricked into going out with him (thank heavens!). They have been married almost 34 years. She loves sushi, chocolate, and mountain biking.
She has a podcast called The Laws of Peace where you will learn how to understand and apply the Laws of Abundance so you can take small steps to create big miracles and changes and become the person you were always meant to be.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been in person networking meetings (BNI) because building relationships is key and when people trust me they want to work with me. Pivotal in my business has been referrals. Those come from happy clients.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most important training in my field is marketing. When you are a coach you have 2 jobs. One is coaching and one is marketing. Half of my time in my business is spent marketing and the other half is spent coaching. You must get clear on your message and how you help people and get that message out to make a real difference in people’s lives and grow your business.
