We were lucky to catch up with Krisler Bailey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Krisler, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
2023 was a terribly difficult year. On May 20th, my husband Stuart, experienced a stroke. We learned he had a hole in his heart, and that is what led to the stroke. Fortunately, he recovered, though we knew he would need surgery to close the hole. That happened in late July. Three weeks later, my mother, who had been battling cancer, also had surgery. That did not go as well as we hoped, and on September 26th, she passed away.
Through all of this, I continued to work as a professor and education consultant. Plus, I grew my own business, Coaching with Krisler. Not to mention, keeping young humans alive.
I needed support like I have never needed it before, and my amazing community, my village, showed up in ways I was not expecting.
Our close friends, Angela and Shawn, kept our boys for a couple of days/nights while I was at the hospital with Stuart. Our local family members (my niece, mother-in-law, and sister/brother-in-law) all helped us during this time. When my mother died, one of my closest friends, Amy, dropped everything to be by my side.
My neighbors secretly collected money and gift cards, so I did not have to worry about feeding my family. Other neighbors and friends dropped off meals. The sons of neighbors cut our grass, so I didn’t have to worry about yardwork. My department chair, Carol, and administrative assistant, Sammy, consistently checked on me, reminding me that I was not alone.
This was this most challenging time in my life, yet I was surrounded by people who did not just say “let me know if you need anything” they did it without me having to ask. There are not enough thank yous to express how grateful I am for my village.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Because I sell a service and not a physical product, I am my brand. So, it was important for me to get out into the community and meet people. I spent months attending networking events, learning names, making eye contact, and shaking hands. I didn’t just tell people about my services, I learned about theirs. Then I began to support others by sharing their business on social media and referring people to them. I believe in collaboration, even with “competing” businesses. This demonstrates I am trustworthy and encourages people to support my business.
Additionally, I consistently worked on my social media accounts. I began sharing my personal experience and what I knew. I am authentic. What you see is what you get. I don’t get into internet fights. Trolls are not worth of my time, but I appreciate their comments because they help my algorithm. 😊

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My networking efforts have been fruitful. Most of my clients come from referrals from friends and other professionals in the community. I have also gained clients through social media, specifically Instagram.
