We caught up with the brilliant and insightful La’Marr Collins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
La’Marr, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
There have been many moments that shaped me wanting to pursue a professional creative path. I am an artist by definition, so I always knew I wanted to be an artist since very young. My love for graphic arts started in grade school, and my passion for music has always been a part of my life. I decided to pursue a degree in graphic design in high school, while giving up the desire to be in choir around the same time. It wasn’t until my last year in college that I decided to take making music serious. So within the next year after I graduated, I started writing consistently, tapped in with a producer I’ve known throughout high school, and decided to release a music project that I believed would capture the essence of my art. A story of a kid that appreciated art in its entirety, using a “blank canvas” to paint a picture on how I viewed life’s struggles through the scope of a paintbrush. Dropping a music project every year following, I learned as much as I could to elevate my skills in all mediums including music, painting, videography, photography, and engineering.

La’Marr, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am an artist that cannot be placed inside of a box. From art to music, I have expanded my reach well into graphic design in all aspects as I provide an artistic approach to multiple mediums, including (but not limited to) audio engineering, videography, photography, and media development. These mediums have allowed me to work with a number of successful individuals and companies across the country to further equip myself with resources to build my own brand within myself as a musician within the Chicagoland area. The clients that I have worked with have a vision, and they leave it up to me to bring their stories to life. I focuses on cinematics, capturing the realism of life through sound or visual elements to bridge the gap between storytelling and real life. I am most proud of my versatility as I blend these mediums together to help others understand elegance in details.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Networking opportunities as well as ways to reach the people that would enjoy my art are on the top of that list for me.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to see your vision come to life. You get an idea, visualize what form that idea takes, and really make it happen. Now that idea exists in the world, and it might even take another shape. whether it’s words, then a song, then a video, or a thought, then a picture, then a painting.
