We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Fatimah Gbajabiamila. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Fatimah below.
Hi Fatimah, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
My interest in art and design started at a young age. I loved putting together art projects and excelled at creating. Over the years, my craft shifted toward a more design-focused path, especially after site visits with my dad in Lagos, Nigeria. These experiences made me think about how to translate 2D drawings into 3D concepts. I implemented my findings using mixed media, drawing inspiration from my surroundings.
While art has always been an escape for me, design has taught me to approach creativity with intentionality. Understanding the scope, the client’s vision, and how a space influences its users brought clarity to my direction as a designer.
I went to SCAD to refine my interior design skills, but it wasn’t until I started working in the real world that my abilities truly advanced. Hands-on projects allowed me to apply theory and push the boundaries of my creativity, learning from every challenge.
Looking back, I wish I had sought more real-world experience during my studies. Internships or mentorships would have helped me navigate the professional landscape faster. The essential skills I’ve gained include problem-solving, technical proficiency with design software, and effective communication with clients. Balancing creativity with client expectations was one of the biggest obstacles, but it’s what drives me to think more strategically about my work.

Fatimah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the design industry started after I completed my education, working in retail furniture sales at CB2, Basset Furniture, and RH. These experiences refined my selection processes, helped me understand lead times, and taught me how to navigate sourcing effectively. However, it wasn’t until I moved to Dallas for an internship with Studio11Design that I truly began to understand how spaces come together. While SCAD provided me with a solid foundation in interior design, the real-world experience I gained at Studio11Design, AMA Associates, and ClardyDesignGroup really opened my eyes to the practical aspects of design.
I have always believed in continuous learning, and I feel truly blessed to be constantly evolving. Each experience I’ve had has contributed to my understanding of design and my ability to provide valuable solutions for my clients.
Today, my services include full-service interior design for retail, hospitality, and residential projects, with hopes of expanding into commercial design soon. I also offer art curation and creation, branding activation, interior design sourcing, and Business to Business contract work. My approach combines different creative disciplines—design, art, and branding—to create spaces and experiences that align with my clients’ needs and identities.
What sets me apart is my ability to integrate these elements seamlessly, offering a dynamic and personalized service. I focus on creating designs that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and meaningful to the people who experience them.
I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that BY ENI-OLA is about crafting intentional, multi-dimensional experiences. My work is driven by passion, creativity, and a commitment to delivering designs that inspire, connect, and endure.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the opportunity to create and learn every day. There’s something deeply fulfilling about working on a project and completely losing myself in the process. Time seems to flow seamlessly, and that immersion allows me to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and evolve my craft. It’s a privilege to not only bring my vision to life but also to see how the work resonates with others, whether through art, design, or branding. The continuous learning and growth I experience with every project is what keeps me passionate and motivated.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my key goals is to create a space that educates emerging artists and designers through workshops, classes, and seminars focused on sustainable design practices. As I continue to learn and grow in the industry, I’m passionate about giving back the knowledge I’ve gained, especially in encouraging the next generation of creatives to reduce production waste by repurposing materials and making mindful design choices. This mission is driven by my belief that creativity should not come at the expense of the environment. By sharing these practices, I hope to inspire others to think more sustainably in their creative process, ultimately fostering a more eco-conscious and resourceful creative community.
