We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jenny Mears a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenny, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
Arvada Barre is a small, one-of-a-kind boutique fitness studio. We’re not like corporate fitness studios. We lead with heart, not hype.
Community and connection come first at our studio. We know our clients by name and create a welcoming, inclusive space where everyone feels safe and supported. You’re never just a number here—you’re part of something meaningful.
Our instructors are trained to offer modifications so every client can tailor their workout to their needs—whether they’re recovering from an injury, pre/postnatal, or just having an off day. It’s never a one-size-fits-all experience.
One story that always reminds us why this matters: a new client told us she had never felt comfortable in a group fitness setting until finding our studio. After just a few classes, she said she finally felt like she belonged—like this was a place made for her. That’s exactly why we do what we do.

Jenny, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into this business because I wanted to do something that truly mattered. My background is in corporate sales business development, and marketing, but during the most difficult time in my life, I found group fitness, and it helped me heal. It reminded me how powerful movement and community can be, and I knew I wanted to create that kind of space for others.
Looking back I had no idea what the future would hold. Now owning the studio we are creating a one-of-a-kind boutique studio experience that offers barre, strength, and Pilates mat-inspired classes. We focus on connection, inclusivity, and truly supporting each person who walks through our doors.

Any advice for managing a team?
When it comes to managing a team and boosting morale, I probably don’t fit the traditional mold and I’m okay with that. I’ve built our team on kindness and trust.
We keep things simple: open-door policy, honest feedback, and genuine support. I respect what each person brings to the team, and I make sure they know it. We celebrate wins and keep communication open no micromanaging, just real teamwork.
This is really about creating a positive space for everyone, not just our clients. When your team feels supported and seen, that energy carries through everything they do—and that’s what makes the studio so unique.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe word of mouth and really building something special with all of our clients. We’ve built something that just isn’t the usual fitness studio and I am proud of that. We are truly one of a kind and I couldn’t be more proud of that.
