We recently connected with Shayne Hollifield and have shared our conversation below.
Shayne, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
It all started with a significant leap of faith. At the age of 50, I decided to leave my salaried management position to pursue my long-held passion for real estate and beautiful homes. I had lost my enthusiasm for my management role, and after my 50th birthday, I resolved to take a chance on a dream.
Like any significant risk, it was challenging and a bit scary at times. However, with perseverance, determination, the incredible support of my family and friends, those tough initial years in real estate paved the way for an amazing career.
Two years into my real estate journey, I partnered with my mentor, and together we established our own local boutique firm in Western North Carolina. We opened our doors just three weeks before the pandemic began. It was another considerable risk, but we were fortunate and blessed.
Today, our firm has grown to include eight agents and a marketing/digital director. We now serve Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and East Tennessee. In my experience, faith and resilience are crucial when taking risks.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a Realtor licensed in both North and South Carolina, I believe my deep personal connection to these areas truly distinguishes me. Having grown up in South Carolina and spent the last 30 years in Western North Carolina, I’ve genuinely experienced the lifestyle here in the Carolinas. When I talk about mountains-to-lake real estate, it’s not just a slogan for me. I have a home on Lake Greenwood in my home state and live on a mini farm in Black Mountain – it really is the best of both worlds.
I also believe that having a servant’s heart has been invaluable in assisting my clients with their real estate needs. Whether it involves creative problem-solving or simply thinking differently, my focus is always on making one of their most significant financial transactions a smooth and positive experience.
If I had to highlight one point of pride, it would be the brand we’ve built at Noble & Company Realty. Our team truly embodies the lifestyle we represent, and that authenticity shines through. While we might be a small, boutique firm, we strive to make a significant impact on our clients and the community. Recently, I have added East Tennessee to my license and am looking forward to helping in that beautiful area as well.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in real estate is the need to be flexible rather than rigidly sticking to a plan. The ever-changing nature of this business has taught me to embrace adaptability and be open to endless possibilities. While I’ve always been a planner who values follow-through, I’ve come to realize that not everything goes as expected, and the ability to adapt and improvise is crucial for success in this field.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
My transition into real estate involved a deliberate step. I initially took a position as a real estate assistant. Learning the fundamentals from the administrative side allowed me to hit the ground running once I obtained my license. After gaining two years of experience at a larger firm, I took another significant step, partnering with my mentor (who I had worked with during my time as an assistant) to establish our own real estate firm.
