Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Judy. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Judy, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have been in the art gallery business for 20 years and successfully ran and operated Art With Judy Ann , which is also my studio. I did stained glass and had good business also selling fine art, until the materials I used gave me blood lead poisoning. I pivoted into Alcohol inks and have been doing them ever since, including teaching and demonstrating the mediums. This also got me a wonderful commission with the Cure 4 Kids Cancer clinic in Las Vegas. I volenteer my time with the kids and we create works to be later auctioned off at the annual fundraiser gala. I recieved a three year long commission for a large amount of my work to be purchased and on display at the clinic.
But I was feeling unfulfilled and began searching for a new something that would excite me again. Clients would come in and say, what a dream, you’re so lucky! Which frankly made me feel a little guilty about wanting something new. But I had to follow my heart, I believe there was something more for me . I started a journey searching for that something and tried a lot of ideas which didn’t really pan out . But one day I actually got very ill and went to the hospital, only to be miss diagnosed and sent home. Within a week I was close to death, and I went back to hospital and found out I had e-coli from a salad. It had gone septic by this time and was multiplying in my blood. Long story and another week in hospital with very strong antibiotics, I was able to go home. Unfortunately this killed all my stomach microbes and started another set of problems. Anyway nothing was helping until a friend gave me a book by Joe dispanza regarding healing anything with just your thoughts. I read it and decided to try the process and it actually worked! I healed my issues within two weeks. Soooo this led me down the rabbit hole on energy healing and how it works. I got certified in sound bowl healing, tuning forks, energy recovery resets and other such modalities. Once I experienced for myself what sound healing could do I dove deep into the process of manifestation. Then on to meditation and spiritual transformation. All within a two month, well then one night after a meditation about purpose and what’s it all about kind of thing , a “download” if you will, came to me to create a healing space for others to heal as well. I was given nearly every detail on what to name, how to create, logo, the entire business plan in one night. I then simply listened and started this new retreat business with the idea of a center down the road. I have compiled a core group of yoga, healers, teachers… to be a part of it and we are moving quickly with this idea. Every day we move closer, we have our first retreat planned in Oct of this year with a three day curriculum. This is my true calling and I am stepping directly into it. Business is Terra Altha which means Earth Healer and is entirely built around energy healing for people. Growth and reset your body to frequency balance.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As i transistion away from art and step into the Energy Healing realm, I really desire to educate, clear trauma energenticly, and facilitate a safe space for healing. In the past three months im imersing myself in the foundation, and science of this work. I have recently joined a Master Manifesting program with Mind Valley Institution, which is the largest manifesting and energy work platform in the world. I am very good at bringing in the people needed to solve a problem and start people on the healing path. I am already creating retreate experiences that will continue the healing and soul nurturing process, with the first in Oct of this year. My larger desire is for a permanant home for healers and homiopathic healing to happen. This has become my passion, Terra Altha, which means Earth Healer. We all need a safe place to exhale and resart our system, we take this serious and our core guides are rooted in this single concept. We use overlapping modalities to enhance the experience using ; Crystal Healing Bowls, Bio-feed tuning forks, meditaion, voice, intentions, art and energy work to name a few. The goal is to help raise the fibrational frequency of people and thus the Earth.
The science backs the practice and learning about this has been life altering. The intention is everything, and with this company the peaple are dedicated to this very concept.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Any entrepanuer that has been in business for any length of time knows what its like to pivot, however I have had some major ones in my life. Originally i was a Sr. exective at a Electronics manufacture. I was the buyer and ran the inventory and procument operations. After around 18 years of this i hit major burnout and felt I was at the top of what i wanted to achieve there. I also was a single mom raising two small children, but I know it was time to shake it up a bit. So I decided to quit, cash in my stocks, sell my house and buy a motorhome to live in until I figured it out. Thats when i discovered my love for art. I trained myself to learn Stained Glass and soon opened a glass studio and fine art gallery to create, market and sell my art. However about 15 years into it, I developed lead poisening from the lead in the materials. I was toxic and my dr said i had to quite today, not tomorrow. So I actually sold my business and stareted a detox program. Now that was no fun and i was quite ill for awhile. About 6 months into it i was feeling better and needed something to occupy my time and brain so i went to work for a friends winery and managed it. Then i happened upon Alcohol inks and really started teaching my self how they work. My daughter and I decided to create a Art Workshop business and start teaching art to folks. We really had a good business going and pivoted to this full time for several years. We did well but then Covid hit in 2020 and we were no longer able to book public places and our business was over. I then decided to take what i knew andd test the waters with a pop up show, which did well enough to show me there was a market for the medium. So in the midst of Covid I opened another art gallery with Alcohol Inks as the main medium. It has done well but now im 5 years into it and felt it was time to Pivot again. I meditated on what to do and frankly dabbled in a few things that didnt stick, until I found this Energy work and sound healing. I dont think I will do anything else at this point, Not that i will heal people but I do see me as a facilitator for this to happen. That is the path now.
You know its very important not to let fear of change keep you from following something in your heart. I have created many businesses, without worring if they will fail or not. Success to me is the willingness to try new things, new experiences. how will you know if your going to like it if you dont try it?
Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
Early on in the Art business we did pretty well, but then the recession came. People were losing their homes, businesses, all sorts of doom and gloom everywhere. Art is certainly a luxury item and generally is the first things that people will stop buying when money gets tight. I didnot have employees but i also had gone a few months of not paying myself a wage, just to keep expenses down. I could see though that i needed to do something else to keep rent and our spot open, so i had a pretty candid talk with the land lord. We came up with an exchange of labor for rent .amy Our location was not great back then and our building was older and needed some repairs. There was alot i knew we could help with so my boyfriend and i exchanged a couple month free rent for painting the building and fixing some of the broken stuff around. This did buy us some time, and allowed us to make a more thought out decision on the long term issue. All of my leases have been sealed with a simple handshake. Honesty and a good work ethic. I think people value this and will always work with you when they feel the intent in your words. Everybody in business has most likely had a rough patch and will understand what you are going thru, as long as you are genuine with your words and heart. No games
