We were lucky to catch up with LaTrenda Ross recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, LaTrenda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
My name is La-Trenda, and over the years, friends and family have given me all sorts of nicknames — Trend, Trenda, Trends, TrenyTren — you name it. People often tell me I’m like a walking fashion statement, always bringing color, style, and energy into the room. Some even say, “You’re always trending.”
That word stuck with me — not just because of the style, but because of what it really meant: always evolving, always in motion, always moving forward. That’s what life is about for me — and what I want it to be about for others.
I’ve been through a lot, including deeply personal battles, and I’ve come to believe that life gives us moments where we get to choose a new direction. A new mindset. A new chance. A new life.
So, when I thought about creating my business, I knew it had to reflect that spirit — not just my name, but the energy behind it. That’s how Trending Into A New Life was born. It’s about transformation. It’s about growth. And it’s about helping people step into their next chapter — stronger, more confident, and with purpose.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m La-Trenda Ross — a mother of two beautiful daughters, a proud grandmother to five amazing grandchildren, and a woman who has dedicated over 30 years of her life to serving others.
My journey began in the field of social and human services, where I wore many hats: program manager, director, case manager, job coach, advocate — you name it. I’ve worked in nonprofits across various communities, but no matter the title or organization, the core of my work has always been the same: advocating for, guiding, and supporting individuals and families through life’s toughest seasons.
What drives me is the belief that everyone deserves a chance to heal, grow, and live with dignity. My passion lies in promoting client wellness and autonomy through advocacy, education, resource coordination, and empowerment.
Over the years, I’ve supported single mothers rebuilding their lives, led parenting programs, walked with survivors of domestic violence, advocated for the homeless and disabled, and stood by adolescents, elders, and those navigating behavioral and psychological challenges. I’ve served thousands of people — maybe even more — and every person has left an imprint on my heart.
That journey led me here — to Trending Into A New Life, a life coaching practice rooted in purpose, resilience, and real-life experience.

What I Want You to Know

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In October 2024, I received the kind of news that instantly shifts your entire world—I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. At first, it was devastating. The shock, fear, and uncertainty were overwhelming. I remember sitting with the weight of those words, not just as a patient, but as a woman who had spent decades helping others navigate their own life challenges. Suddenly, I was the one needing strength, needing answers.
But after allowing myself the space to process and feel, something inside me awakened. I found a deeper, more determined strength that had always been there—I just had to call on it in a new way. Rather than allowing this diagnosis to break me, I chose to let it build something even bigger: a renewed sense of purpose. My battle with cancer became more than just my own—it became a catalyst for a movement rooted in awareness, education, and support for others.
This journey reminded me that resilience isn’t about never breaking down. It’s about what you build in the aftermath. I chose to turn pain into purpose, fear into fuel, and struggle into service. Today, I stand not just as a survivor, but as a voice, a guide, and a champion for those who are fighting battles—seen and unseen. My story is still being written, but I know this: I’m here for a reason, and I will keep showing up for others, just as I always have.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
For most of my life, I believed that being strong meant not showing weakness. That strength looked like always having the answers, always holding it together, always putting others first — no matter what I was going through.
I carried that belief into every role I held — as a mother, grandmother, professional, community advocate, and even as a friend. I showed up. I kept pushing. I rarely asked for help. I thought that’s what strength was supposed to look like.
But then life handed me something I couldn’t muscle my way through — my breast cancer diagnosis. And suddenly, I was the one who needed care, the one with questions, the one who couldn’t just “push through” the pain.
At first, I still tried to wear the mask. I didn’t want to burden anyone. I didn’t want to seem weak. But the truth is, that kind of silence was isolating — and it didn’t serve me. It didn’t heal me. It didn’t make me stronger. If anything, it held me back from the connection and support I desperately needed.
That’s when I had to unlearn the idea that strength equals silence. I had to redefine what it meant to be strong. Real strength, I’ve come to understand, is being able to say: “I need help.” “I’m scared.” “I don’t know what’s next, but I’m going to keep going.”
Since then, I’ve embraced a new definition of strength — one that includes softness, honesty, and vulnerability. I carry that into my coaching work today. I help my clients unlearn the same lie I believed for so long — that they have to suffer in silence to be seen as strong.
Because we don’t. We heal by being honest. We grow by being real. And we rise when we give ourselves permission to be fully human.
