We were lucky to catch up with Karla Sonnier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Karla, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
I make whipped body butters, and I had a customer who used my butters for their toddlers diaper rash and to both of our surprise it cleared the child’s rash up. After that customer review I began to market the product to parents with that same concern and have been receiving great feedback.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my body care line out of necessity. For years, I suffered from extreme dry skin and was desperate for a solution that would truly nourish and soothe my skin. After trying countless store-bought products that didn’t work, I took matters into my own hands and began experimenting with different butters and oils. Eventually, I developed a whipped body butter that was not only deeply moisturizing but also smooth and easy to apply.
At first, it was just for me. But when family and friends came over, they’d try it, fall in love with it, and offer to pay me to make some for them. Before long, people kept encouraging me to turn it into a business. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to because I’d previously sold hair extensions and found the customer service side incredibly stressful, even though I never had complaints. I just didn’t want to be overwhelmed again.
I also worried about everything from sourcing ingredients and finding the right packaging to standing out in what felt like a saturated market. But once I finally said yes to launching my body care line, everything began to flow. Word-of-mouth took off, and I’ve had loyal customers who continue to support and share my products with others.

For me marketplace pop ups have help to grow my business as well as private events my customers would have.
