We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ricky Pike a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ricky, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I truly want to be able to give affordable classes and be able to teach the everyone who wants to learn, when gym dues get up to around a car payment , I know some can’t afford that so we try to make it as affordable as possible. Another thing is being able to give back what 30+ years of martial arts have given me and bring up the next generation of kids who will be leaders and be able to keep this tradition on

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a life long martial artist from the age of 15 but I was into martial arts when i was young and wanted to learn and be able to teach and have my own gym. After years of hard work i was able to achieve that goal and bring my passion and love for teaching and training in multiple different arts over the years. I received my black belt in Jiu Jitsu November 2021 after 13 years of training. At All Heart Jiu Jitsu we have some great men and women who truly fight and train with their heart. You can’t teach heart and we have been really blessed to have a bunch of students who really push themselves to be the best they can be for themselves and others around them. Our kids go out and compete and step up to bigger and more experience competition and they love to test themselves.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I already don’t have the best knees and I dislocated my knee cap in class, I thought it was over for a moment, but with help, i rebuilt the strength in my knee and kept on pushing, We have had gym splits and other things happen but we keep pushing on and now been able to be there for others who had their gym close and needed a new home, and being able to push up and out those valleys so we can be in a position to be able to be there when people need us is the best part and allowing us to know we are doing the right thing

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being honest and straightforward has helped build my reputation, don’t look down on others, always try to lend a helping hand, win, lose or draw we always want to shake the other people’s hands and be respectful. Patience is another thing especially with kids and adults that have special needs and being able to work and help so many different personalities and still stay positive
