We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Wayne Comick Jr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Wayne, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My whole life, I feel as though I have taken a risk. From transferring from my hometown high school to a technical high school in Newark, NJ (Donald M. Payne Tech) to learn about TV production, attending college for four years, and graduating with my degree in the Bachelor of Arts for Radio, TV, and Film and having an social media internship lined up. My love for TV production runs deep since I was a kid. Getting into content creation was a little nerve-racking, but I wanted to show the world my vision, my POV, while also motivating my peers, family, and social media mutuals that you can do anything you want if you’re willing to take that risk and sacrifice certain distractions. One day, I hope I can tell my story to my city, possibly even my county. You never know who you’re motivating, and I like to believe I’m motivating someone every day.

Wayne, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, my name is Wayne Comick Jr. My love for digital media and TV production started when I was a kid. My mother would always tell me when I was younger, I loved being in front of the camera, talking to people in big crowds, having the control, or “all the eyes on me” when it came to talking, never made me nervous. Time moves on, and in the year of 2022, I decided to make my own freelance videography/ editing company named “Comick Productions,” where the goal is to make not just mine but my clients’ visions come to life. From documentaries, music videos, and podcasts, I have been able to help my clients come up with certain concepts while also taking on the responsibility to direct, produce, or edit their content. The proudest moment I had was in the summer of 2022 when I was able to produce, direct my first documentary titled ” East Orange The Documentary “. I had the honor to interview 4 random Gen-Z people about their upbringings in their communities, the state of their environment, and what East Orange can do to grow and become more welcoming to all. Currently, it has over 1,200+ Views on youtube
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most Rewarding??? the opportunity to share my vision with other artists, creatives, or normal people who use social media. If you were to ask me in high school that I would be helping people with projects, acting, and making my content on social media while trying to pursue a career in TV production. High School Wayne would have felt on his knees and started crying. My goal was for whatever I do in life is to motivate people. Getting love for my content is the most rewarding aspect. Not the money, the views, the clout, the future brand deals, no, it’s always and will always be motivating people, cause you never know what a human can be going through. I pray that whenever my content shows up, it makes them smile or have something to do, making their day a little bit better.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
NETWORK! Please, please network. I believe in kindness and speaking to people about what you’re passionate about. As creatives, we must network with one another. Regardless of whether they make the same content as you or not, you never know who that person might know, which can take you and your work to the next level. In college, I learn a lot about networking, and really, it’s the same as having a conversation once you and the person you talk to realize you both work or like the same thing, you’re networking, and that’s the beauty of being a part of any type of thriving community.
