We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Julie Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Julie, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Our mission is to be in service to the plants. To give a voice and pathway for the botanical world to speak with and interface more directly with humanity. Through our pure, potent botanical extracts, essential oils, and our proprietary manufacturing process, we retain both their potent therapeutic properties and energetic messages.

Julie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I grew up in rural Alaska, in a sustainable household where I was encouraged to interact with our local environment. I believe this helped me to forge a very close relationship with the botanical world. After college, I studied herbalism in various countries across the globe, as well as in Colorado.

At Leaf People, we create award- winning skin care products that aim to balance and harmonize the skin. Our products address common skin concerns, like fading the appearance of age spots, wrinkles, and redness, while nourishing, hydrating, strengthening, and balancing the skin.

Through being involved in local markets and spas for over two decades, we have created close relationships with our clients. We utilize their feedback, wants, and desires to create targeted products for their skin care goals.

One of the most important things to understand about Leaf People is that our products are manufactured from plant-to-bottle by me, utilizing the care and precision of this ancestral pathway. To bring this tradition into modern times, we integrate plant stem cells, hyaluronic acid, and peptides into some of our formulas. This is a very profound difference to mass manufacturing that is technically driven and AI assisted vs. grounded botanical knowledge and wellbeing. Every member of the Leaf People team is trained in the proper handling, processing, and extraction techniques for the high quality herbs, flowers, and trees used, resulting in truly special products that provide visible results.

Additionally, a percentage of our sales are donated to charity, to give back to the natural environment that supports our product line.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

All products are manufactured in our private lab, located remotely in the Colorado Rockies, surrounded by the inherent intelligence of nature that supports our formulas.

As a certified herbalist, the care, handling, and extraction processes are part of that schooling system. Building upon my education, I had to teach myself the nuances of natural skincare manufacturing. When I started Leaf People over 20 years ago, there were not any natural skincare compounding schools, and even today, they are lacking. Cosmetic chemistry was the only option available to me when I founded Leaf People, which is a vastly different field from herbal skincare manufacturing. Fortunately, I had a wonderful group of aestheticians who were willing to test my formulas in their treatment rooms and provide critical feedback to me that would inform the development of the products. Through this process of creation, testing, feedback, and fine tuning formulas, I was able to create a line that produces real results while soothing the soul.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

For over 20 years, for four months of the year, I have dedicated every weekend to participating in our local farmers markets. We are passionate about staying connected to our community, connecting directly with our clients for their feedback, and participating in a small part of their lives. While it may seem small, this creates a sense of togetherness that mirrors the energetic essence and plant ally relationships found in nature.
