Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Adri Reynoso. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Adri, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always knew I wanted to be an artist, what I did not know was that I would become a fashion illustrator. This journey started as soon as I could hold a pencil. I always loved to draw, and because I come from a family of artists, art was a huge part of my life, however, it was never considered a life path. I was expected to pursue a more business career, and that’s exactly what I did. For years I yearned to be an artist and admired anyone who was living a creative life. I sat on the sidelines, dreaming that someday that could be me. Well, “someday” only comes when you make a decision to change. I signed up to art school and left behind a successful yet unfulfilling career in real estate and have never looked back.

Adri, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a fashion illustrator and event artist based in New York. My dream had always been to become an artist and work in New York City. I was born in California to two immigrant parents, and grew up in Argentina. I also lived in Mexico, Las Vegas and eventually downtown NYC. When I finally made the decision to pursue art, I graduated with a BS in Graphic Design and immediately began working in the field. Although I was in a creative industry, it still felt like something was missing. Art was my passion but I had always loved fashion, so I began to look into the fashion industry and came across fashion illustration—it was the perfect marriage between my two passions.
I decided to start sharing my fashion illustrations online, entering as many open calls as I could. One day my art was selected by Gucci as one of their top three art winners of an art piece created of their collaboration with Adidas. I was featured in their website, social media and they sent me a gift from the collection.
Since then, working live events has been my favorite because I get to connect with people in person and share a piece of my passion. When a person smiles because of your art, it’s a beautiful feeling. I now create fashion illustrations, live paintings, calligraphy, paper art and work live events for luxury brands and private clients. I have worked with brands such as Prada, Balenciaga, Nordstrom, Capital One and Inc. Magazine. I’ve also had the amazing opportunity to live sketch at NYFW and been featured by Schiaparelli, Pat McGrath Lab, Jason Wu, AZ Factory, and Private Policy, among others.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to make others believe in themselves! I grew up thinking that pursuing art was a mistake, that by becoming an artist I would struggle in life. I kept my dreams hidden in a box, and I wish I had known that you can be anything you want and be successful with hard work, dedication and showing up for yourself. It’s never too late. My inner child was right all along—life can be fun and magical!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being able to do what I love every day. I once had a lady look at her illustration and shed a tear. She said she never liked how she looked in pictures, but she was going to frame my sketch. That alone is why I love to do what I do—make people smile and have fun doing it.
