Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kayleigh Kimble. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kayleigh, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
What drove my passion for doing hair replacement is my mom who had brain cancer when I was younger. She sadly passed away when I was eleven. During her years of treatment they had shaved half her head and gave her a wig. The wig did not make her look like herself at all. Later after high school I also experienced hair loss due to health issues. I started wearing extensions and it allowed me to feel more confident and beautiful about myself. Hair is something a lot of people take for granted till they no longer have it. I want to be able to help men and women get their confidence back and be able to live their lives without their hair being a worry. That’s why I have educated myself in many different hair methods to try and meet my guest needs. Unlike a wig they don’t have to have the constant worry if it’s going to fall off. They can go about their lives as normal, whether it’s going to the beach with their family or jumping on the back of a motorcycle. I continue to educate myself to stay innovative and be able to offer my guest the best methods available in the industry.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I did cosmetology when I was in high school. When I graduated I started with Paul Mitchell’s junior associates program to teach others about products and techniques. I was then asked to educate for GKHair which allowed me to experience on stage work. I love education not only just in hair but i have trained in nails, pedicures, facials, massage, makeup, spray tans, eyelash extensions and permanent makeup. I got into hair extensions when I was in school. I remember making some pretty bad clip ins for my self even. For hair extensions and replacement I have trained with Cinderella hair, HairDreams, Habit, Harper Ellis, Twisted Fringe, Zack the Barber, Candice Motley, and HEA. I am opening a hair replacement center where we also will treat scalp and skin. This feels like my calling to help those in need. I want a space where guest feel comfortable hair loss is a very sensitive thing. I want to give them their confidence back. I have am certified in recognizing skin cancer. I’m looking at taking a coarse on oncology esthetics soon. Beginning of next year I’m hoping to be able to offer hair prosthesis as well so I can give semi permanent hair to people with no hair like burn victims. I also am a mother of three small boys 8, 4, and 11 months who drive me to be the best version of myself every day. I’m thankful for my husband who is a huge supporter while running his own business.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
When I was doing all the different service I offered I would only open my book three months at a time especially services that are coming in every 2-3 weeks if they need to cancel or move you then don’t have to try and move an entire year of people. This also creates urgency they need to book or they might not get their day and time. Now redirecting my business I plan on talking to local salons who don’t offer my services and medical providers who may have patients that are in need of my services. In this industry it is so important to sell retail to build trust and help them maintain the amazing service you just performed. Trust is huge also why I continue to educate myself to be knowledgeable in all I offer. Anyone just starting out I would recommend marketing your self as much as possible. Social media is important and being consistent on your post.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Serval years ago after Covid and the major elections I decided to take a step back. I decided I would continue to do my hair extension and hair replacement guest only. I couldn’t leave them due to me being the only one in the surrounding area offering these services I felt the need to stay. I gave up my fully booked schedule. I had become burned out not with services but people. There was so many negative people in the world and it was really wearing on me. I enjoyed doing my hair replacement guest because they were just so grateful to have hair. Cutting my hours at the salon allowed me to realize what I really wanted. Now in the mist of opening my own place where I will be able to help people who truly need it. I believe everything happens for a reason and I’m so thankful to have this opportunity to help others.
